Yeah, I dunno how to feel... Our ancestors put screwed them true enough... But them meeting with Bolivians etc??? Kind of the wrong move... They need to be in talks with Canada. That's the country with the Moxie and the Geographic convenience to really sign a treaty that means something.

I dont really see how it could work? I guess as a tax free status they could attract a lot of buisness, and I think they have a lot of oil on their land (like the govt will let that go). But they will lose all govt funding like, Social security, welfare, road maintance, health care.............

If they havent done anything in the last 150 years except a few casinos, what makes them think they can do it now?? If they really want to make a change with this they will have to assimlate more than they do now to do buisness with the rest of the world, and it seems that is what they are trying to avoid.

I think this is just a bunch of BS, they want to be their own country in title only, but still want all the perks of being American.

They were here first, this is their land, how can you even consider illegal alien status? At best it is a land dispute like the Israelis and Palestinians.

Besides everybody knows it is a ploy to get a casino approved off the Reservation so as to benefit from interstate traffic.

basicly yes, would that be fair or the right thing NO! But the reality is if you can do it without me being able to stop you or get help to stop you then it would be yours until I could take it back or someone else took it from you.

And that is what we did, as many other cultures have done all over the world through out history. Are you suggesting we should all pack up our stuff and move back to where our ancestors came from, I think not, we own this land now because we can not because it's right.

However when you wrap it up with a Modern liberal empty headed sense of right and wrong, or when we have a society that loves creating and supporting the victim mindset this sort of thing will happen...

It hasn't even made the news much around here and I am right in the middle of what they are calling "their nation". The interesting part is that they went and did this without any of the the Tribal Councils support. I'm not sure where they think they get the authority to make such a decision for all of the Lakota people.
