I was just sitting here at work, and I was hit by the thought that Man... I am one lucky SOB...Then it occured to me that while I may have been lucky to some extant, I made it where I am via Hardwork, good decisions, and a bit of luck.

What about fate, are our lives pre-destined? Some cosmic cog in a universal clock? Our actions all having been plotted and planned by some higher power.

I wanted to ask the question. More than just riding, but definatly including your riding. Are we as a demographic, blessed with MAD SkiZills? Or we just the Luckiest pack of "Marvelous Bastards" out there?

Depending on the subject matter I feel like Keith Urban has it covered in his song "But For The Grace Of God".........
(Yes, it is a country song)

Jeez, Rev, *I* don't even get THAT deep at work! You MUST be bored.

a summary: luck and fate are man's words to define mortal actions. there are more actions that go on than we know about. like electricity still existed before it was discovered by man, there are things we may never discover. perhaps destiny is controlled on a level that we cant comprehend yet... and maybe never will.... like how a video game exists and is run by a CPU but IT never really knows of the CPUs existance. the game is allowed to crash, fail, or follow multiple different paths depending on its purpose, but only works within the parameters of what it is given [like us having 2 arms instead of 12, we don't think twice about it and deal]. we all make choices, but some are never shown better choices [IE Hayabusa ;) ] so they end up living under a bridge without family support thanks to the curse carried on their generation [The curse: like kids from divorced family are most likely to get divorces themsleves]. I believe in master plans and a "Gods" destiny because I know there is more out there then we know about.

So, God made my fate lucky and granted me a Hayabusa, because she weighed the same as a duck and is therefore made of wood, so she's a witch and we must burn her anyway.

What was the question??

I don't believe in predeterimnation or in a higher power(though I don't not believe either)(Just no proof one way or the other). However, anyone can make their life better or worse. I've seen rich people fall to poverty because they made bad decisions. I've seen poor people stay poor because they won't sacrifice for something better(no motivation). Hard work and preperation, with taking advantage of opportunities as they happen, are the major factors for determining your postion in life. Luck(good/bad) is out there, but can be minimized with the right decisions. But the biggest thing, life isn't fair, it is easier for some and harder for others................Sorry, I'm bored at work too. My breaks are just too long(but I'm not complaining).

See this is sort of where I am at. I can call it luck but at each crossroads, and decision point in my life thus far I have made decisions that turned out to be good ones. Going to college, marrying the right woman, joining the military, getting out of the military when I did, moving to Tampa, leaving one good company for another (real good idea, The first company downsized by 90% two weeks after I left) bought the right house...Etc.

All along the way, I can say that the decisions I made have decided the course of my life. However are my decisions really being made by me, or are my decisions allready known to a higher power? Or is the course of my life allready determined and thus so are my decisions?

Iceberg tip to the meaning of life, Revlis. Been there, still there too. smile.gif Life is SOO good for so long you wonder if it's directed elsewhere. Maybe we are all just players in YOUR lifelong dream [messin with your head] ;)

Jesus freaks will blindly tell you its all God, non-believers call it fate or coincidence. It's always something you have to come to on your own. "I can only lead you to the door..." "There is no spoon"

[boring spiritual story here]
My path to 'enlightenment' never included some tramtic life event that many need to "find god", but simple scientic logic and examination of others. On MANY occasions, I tested faith and hav enever had it fail. Many would cal it coincidence, but when you lay out a plan with cause and effect, expected potential outcomes, YOU can see the reality of it. My best example of a test was being told for two years solid to "jump. I won't let you fall". I was like, "What the..", so I started skydiving but that wasn't it. I was to quit my job. I futzed around 1.5 years, and even looked for a new one a while back to no avail. Then one day, I gave in and gave notice, not looking, nothing on the horizon. I told one other person on teh planet so I would make sure and quit. Anyway, the very next day, an old friend called up with a job offer. Yeah, yeah, I know it was 'coincidence' to outsiders, but it was a huge leap of faith to me. But realize, the answers you WISH to get are not always the ones you WILL GET. So, temp fate or coincidences or God if you are brave enough [I learned I was!] and you'll learn things you never knew you didn't know. smile.gif

"Just because YOU don't believe it, doesn't mean it isn't true."

I know this aint the place for all this... but, but HE STARTED IT!!! hahahaha I'm done [and bored at work again]
Oh, but I love my Hayabusa and am glad I got it. Did that make it right??

PS: I know the meaning of life. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

I'll be in that other dimension if I get to start dating that 18 year old. wish me "luck" ;)

I once heard this theory that since our thoughts are a combination of chemical and electrical reactions which then trigger more electrical impulses to take action that our lives are predetermined. So for instance if you were to take an exact copy of the world you would see that everything would happen exactly the same since everything is a reaction to something else. It is really just science taking place on everything.

Don't know if I quite believe it because there are too many variables, but it screwed up my buddy for about 12 hours when he first heard about it. smile.gif

Hrmmm...I just got back from a ride on the Harley...no kids for a while today, hubby is Sturgis bound, so I went for a spin.

I finally decided after over a year to visit the grave of someone we lost while riding his bullet bike...his name was David...hard as poop to see his name on that plaque...he was almost 24 when his luck ran out...he was the best kind of person, though. He was kind, and giving, fun and daring...he lived life to the fullest and loved life 'til the end.

I thought all the way back home about how lucky I am right now. In this moment in my life I have so many things, but the slightest wrong decision could end all that, or someone else's miscalculations could change the course I'm on. So, I believe we're all blessed every day, and good luck or bad changes our lives all along the way...

Be safe guys...please don't ever ride intoxicated...ever...it's not worth the risk, and trust me, you'd be missed terribly...

Michelle
