Wow, I weld 2-3 hours every day. I only use a couple cans of non-chlorinated brake clean a week though. I'll have to look that up although I my bottles say 100% Nitrous, and idk if he was using non chlorinated brake cleaner.
I know all to well about this had a big job a few yrs ago at work welding plates in the bottom of a sledge conveyor tank with a tig
They had used brake clean
It stinks horrible and had to hold breath to keep from passing out
So i know all about this
We always use naptha (lighter fluid) for oil and grease removal at the shop. Evaporates very quickly, and leaves no residue on the metal. Use Acetone to get the paint marker notations off of the stainless.
OSHA is pretty strict on that kind of stuff in a welding shop. Only place you'll find brake or carb cleaner in our place is in the (locked) cabinet down in the maintenance area.
Ya brake cleaners a no no, we'll use it to wipe wax or heavy oil of our aluminum parts, once its dried we'll wipe it down with a non toxic graffiti remover we have and good to go.
