Just trying to get this forum jumping.

Anyone make any money in street racing?

There is a place in Mass that is supposed to be the Meca around here.

I wouldn't mind watching something like...

One side of town to the other during the day with traffic and all... see who makes it first..

Dave ,
I know there's a big group of sportbikes that gather in the Myles Standish Industrial Park in Taunton. I know there's a lot of trick ridin'  goin on ...so  I'd reckon there might be a wee bit o' green bein' laid down too.

Most of my racing is on the street. I have raced for $ but don't really do it any more. I'll race for money when we find a new guy or a group from out of town. But there are only about 150-200 sportbikes in town. Not alot of big bikes mainly 900's and 600's.

Jim, Myles Standish is too sandy for me. I rode there once and 3 people crashed that day. The roads aren't straight and flat enough for a drag race. I met a bunch of stunt guys last night. Guys formerly known as DTE, now CORE-6.

Guys I was only joking... I was trying to get this forum going. I have no need to drag on the street. I do have a PACE amateur license if I want to road race, but no track bike or money. I just want to cruise the BUS and hang some highway wheelies.

Thanks for all the input.

I usually save the racing for the track. Any decent sized city always has a quarter mile track within 20 miles, and to race there usually doesnt cost much, probably less than $20. Street racing is just plain stupid, and for people who's skills dont hold a candle to those at the track.

Dont get me wrong, I speed, we all do. But to do a ballz-out race on a public street is really asking for devastating consequences. Are your legs and neck worth $100?

At least at the track, you get to learn about real racing, you meet other people who can give you tips and pointers, and you have an EMS crew on standby in case you wreck. I've heard of people racing on the street, wrecking, and the other biker not even stopping! I dont know about you, but if I was laying on the ground looking at my severed leg 30 feet away, I'd want to know the ambulance was on the way.

From what I've seen here in Tampa, street drag racing isn't really popular anymore. stunting, cruising, cornering, and fellowship is why people meet up, not to compete in some crap race that will get someone killed.

We know our bikes are fast, and we know that riding a motorcycle can be lethal. Add to it money, adrenaline, the unknowns of the street, and good old fashoined male pride, and you'll be turned into a pretty bouquet of flowers on the side of the road really quick. Not trying to preach, just hoping that my .02 cents might keep the shiny side up

I live in baltimore/dc area. guys meet at a city park on sunday late afternoon, talk crap then street race. Here's the kicker the cops sit up on the hill and watch. I'll just admit it I'm do not have the balls to street race.

However on the wide open road (outside metropolitan areas), I will go balls to the wall with some high end cars or bikes. the busa and i have taken on some porche 911 turbo's, m5. It took almost everything to nip those cars at top end. Beware the small guy on a gsxr1000. My baby true to form kept pulling. I do not know but sometimes when i put the helmet on, I transform into another person. I refuse to act stupid around other motorists. you have to pick your spots.

That is where my buddy crashed. He had an old GSXR1100

I have been through about 10 crashes since I first started motorcycling 13 years ago,  most of the time I ended up sliding off into soft grass-- which is actually not bad, for both me and bike

I got hit on my busa 2 times last year both happening within 5 minutes of each other.

a guy pulled out in fron of me, despite seeing me coming down the road-

5 min. later a guy with a truck backed out a parking spot into the road just as I passed right behind him- almost ran me over

I was just going to get bottled water that day.

$6,000.00 damage- not totalled though. they both paid, and not my bike has been better than ever.

many public roads are not safely designed for street races or other types of motorsport competition. and in high traffic areas there is a lot of junk on the road surface which is downright dangerous.

I don't want to sound like I am critisizing, but the average motorist out there is simply not on the level of that person operating a motorcycle- specifically a Hayabusa. And they really don't care about that level. Nor will they give you that respect on the roads. Here in Europe- sometimes they do, even the local authorities.

So out on public roads keep in mind your busa may easily exceed the capabilities of that road or environment- especially when you get past 3rd gear and that ram air REALLY starts to kick in and develop positive pressure in the airbox.

Last year there was a lot of grudge racing and gambeling at the Prostar events. This year it seems the venue will be the 60" series at MIR and the rock. I've heard of $15k or more being lost on a race. Some of these guys don't play.

Lots of big buck street racing $1,000 $5,000 per race usually at Daytona. Well not htis year too much rain. Some racing South though.

Disclaimer -> This is NOT true!!

(wink, wink)

About a year ago, I was at the local street races. Now, my bro and I have been street racing a 5.0 for about 11 years now, so where very tuned to the scene. I'm on Blue (replaced now w/ a silver one), a couple of guys roll up in Supras. Actually, I know one of them.

We got to talking, and his 'new' car is hopped up, but only turbo timer and exhaust and such. But his friend is tuned really nice; single turbo, front mount, who knows what else. But the mere fact that he had a single turbo tells me he's putting down AT LEAST 650 to the wheel.

So as he tells me he's putting 430 down, he asks about my bike. Mentions that he's never ever been beaten by any car or any bike. Braggin' if you will. But in San Diego, we race more of braggin rights than anything else.

20 minutes later where both of the freeway, with an extra Supra, a Z06, couple of mustangs behind us. Now I already know that most guys don't really think about getting into it on the freeway, downshifting maybe a gear or two. Not me. I'm buzzing along at 75 in 2nd gear.

I wave him to go, at least to get his turbo spooled up. The car goes and I can hear the whine, so I hit it. I didn't kill him, I didn't smoke him, but instead slowly mile per hour'd him. Here he comes, there he is, there he goes.

By the time I lift off the gas, he's a good 10 car lengths behind. At that speed, not much, but enough to make a point. I looked down while slowing, and the needle was heading torward 175 and passing it going down. So I 'reckon' we, or at least I, did an honest 170.

That was single handedly the stupidest thing I've ever done next to doing a wheelie on a mountain pass and crashing (hence the new bike, and the bigger commitment to goof off at the track). Yeah, I guess I was the 'hero' back at the local spot, but I was shaking so bad I rode home at the end of the night no faster than the posted speed limit.

Supras. As far as cagers go, they are the most bad ass in my eyes.
