How long before busa chain change?

I'm gonna get flamed here but,...
Chains don't stretch.

You can't stretch the side of a motorcycle chain link.
Just look at it. Imagine the force required.

The "Stretch" actually comes from the erosion of material between the links, at the joint.
Multiply the lose of material times 112 and that equals length.

I guess a good test would be to micrometer the outside/inside of the link when chain is new, then after 20K miles. Multiply variance by number of links

stock bike, 12K on chain,   (.0015X112=.168" not .500)

but I do agree, chain length is more "wear" than "stretch" but the term "stretch" makes a lot more sense to most people (I can see a "longer" chain but I can not see a worn pin)..  


I am sure that there are dozens of terms that are really technically incorrect but are used to keep things easier to understand..

I guess we could start a thread on them
