yeaaahh... I hate to break this to you, but this is a common occurance with someone who has a split personality disorder,

You really didnt send it to your self, however the other person living in your body sent it to you as a way to communicate. since both of you cannot be in control of the body at the same time the only way to communicate effectivley is to send each other emails.

You will get used to it after awhile, kind of freaky at first. but after a few years I have gotten pretty good and communicating with myself.

Good luck..

I asked my IS VP about this same scenario as it happens to me on both my work and personal email accounts. He said that there is a way to make an email appear to come from someone else but would not share how it is done for fear that I would do that to someone as a joke. In retrospect, he made the right decision.

Ok, all jokes asside.

Look at the header of the message, there should be some identifiable information that you can use in order to set up a spam filter.

Even though it "appears" to be from your email address, the email server it came from, the email program it was sent from, etc should all be contained in the head.

You could also setup a rule that ONLY allows email from your address with specific information in the header

That would probably be the most effective way.

Here is an example of a message header

For me I have it pretty easy, I use Yahoo as my incoing POP server and they have a pretty good filtering system set up.

All emails their system percieves as being junk mail is flagged in the header as 'YAHOO FILTERED BULK" so I have setup a rule that searches for the word bulk in the message header and all emails that are flagged as bulk from yahoo gets automatically moved into a spam folder.

I get roughly 400 spam emails a day, I just glance through the spam folder quickly to see if any legitimate emails stick out and then I delete them. I can delete about 400 spam emails from my spam folder in about 30 seconds (that is glancing at them first then deleting)

So whatever pop server you are recieving your emails from, see if they are doing any spam filtering and tagging of emails...

There was a virus out a few years back that would send out email spam to everyone in the infected persons address book. The problem is there is no way of knowing which one of your friends were infected and there was nothing you could do about it. This smells very similiar.

Ah. Maybe I am infected.
But I don't think so because it even says "could not verifed by Sender ID."

Actually it would mean that someone who has you in their address book is infected. It honestly has nothing to do with you.

It takes itself (the virus) attached it to some piece of spam and then emails it out using everyones address in the address book, TO everyone in the address book.

Actually that may not be 100% accurate but it is something like that. It has been a few years. Someone help me out here. Anyone remember this?
