Which part. On the top of the fender its a clip. Feel from backside and you can squeeze it to help it come out. Its a pita to put back on.

The side one is a nut and bolt setup with a grommet on the brake line that pulls out of the bracket.

So many people have this issue on the GenI also.

However, it is held on by a rivot and taking it off and replacing it is really a bear.

* GenI - (for those reading here by accident) take a grinder on the inside (assuming the fender is already removed) of the fender and grind it off. Be careful not to hold pressure to long as the heat will melt the plastic leaving a much bigger hole than when you started with.

Installation of the front fender will then be much easier and worry over scratching the right fork leg will no longer be an issue.

On a Gen II the side clip is held on with a bolt from the inside. The back clip is just a plastic clip with wings on two sides. Just push in and up on one wing with a screwdriver. Or if you can, squeeze the two wings together with a pair of pliers and push it out.
