Highway cruising

What is the usual gear when taking a nice easy sunday ain't gonna get arrested ride in the country. Since I can destroy the speed limit in first gear and have five after that it would be nice to hear if folks cruise in 4th or lug it around in 5th etc when just getting from spot to spot on the map. I ran in 4th gear but my mileage didn't seem great given the rate at which the gas needle fell. Thanks for any feedback

When i first bought the bike i used to be in 6th gear by the time i was at 70mph.Now i dont bother.The instuction manual says not to go to 11k RPM.Even at 70mph in 2nd gear the bike is far from redline and i have the power there in case i have to get outta the way real fast if a cager comes close etc

under 80 I stay in 5th. I seem to get better gas mileage in 5th.. A busa will do fine on gas in 6th if you are going 120. I can get almost 46-50 mpg w/ stock 06 in 5th.

When I see the word "cruising" associated with the Hayabusa.... I cringe!!!

The beast is not a 'cruiser'... it's a speed demon... a bat outta hell... a rocket ride to Jupiter!!!!.... It's not a slow-poker bike!!!

Please do NOT ride your Busa under the speed limit! Do NOT ever let a 'Stang or Vette pass you!!! NEVER!!!

Do the Busa right. Ride her like she wants. She wants to be ridden hard and fast...just like a pornstar. She can take it! She's a professional!!!

I really need to get my bike looked at.......the worse mpg was 48 mpg....the best to date is 59.78 mpg......averages low to mid 50s. I run 87 octane...rotella 15/40 synthetic....avon tires @ 42 psi.....k&n air filter.... lowered....rs3 bolt-ons...pc3 usb with the m312-005 map.....Heck Im even @340 lbs. I have put a little over 7k miles on the bike since I brought it home in March. I am in 6th gear by 60 mph and usually run between 70-80 mph, somewhere between 3-4k rpms. I do play....and I have been around 150 mph before....lol ...When I do ride its usually 50-200+ miles......I dunno......Maybe 1 of these days I can get up with you guys at a bash or something and you guys can show me what Im doing wrong....With some of you guys mpg's in the 30s, you must be having more fun than me...lol

Well, lesse here. You're running the recommend octane, with synthetic oil, cruiser tires with a decently high pressure, (though I have heard of higher), a freer breathing air filter, a lower frontal area due to the lowering, bolt ons don't matter, you got lucky with your map, (or it's running a hair lean, either doesn't matter much), and it sounds like your body adequately fills the aerodynamic glut on the Busa, you ride in the efficiency sweet spot most of the time, shift like a granny, and go on trips that keep the engine hot for long periods.

The guys getting low 30's either have testerone problems, performance issues, (which can be oil, air flter, tires & pressures, stock height (larger frontal area), rich fuel maps, etc), are unable to fill the aerodynamic void on the bike, or some combination of the above.

In town I will stay in a low gears (3 & 4) in case of any trouble. On the Hwy. I'm in 6th. Around town MPG 35-37. HWY MPG 45-50. It is all on how you ride.

Round town I lope in 6th at 25 MPH. I love it. It sounds so bad chugging along. Stock '06 best checked MPG 45.2. Still under 4K miles. Hard to stay below 100 on interstate. Just rode 1300 miles last weekend.

If you go too fast, you won't be able to see everyone waiving at you.

I cruised from Chattanooga to Knoxville last summer at 85 to 95 mph most of the way and got 50 mpg.

BMC street air filter, M6's, D&D bolton, Marble, Laminar Lip, and no straight flat roads...
