Hid kits

I'm shopping HID kits. Anyone have any preferences? I did a search, but only came up with a couple posts. What does the installation involve? I see some people using the 1000k units while some using the 6000k units. Where is the best place to buy a kit? Any help would be appreciated.

A lot of the members here are probably using McCollough. There was a group buy a few months ago and they were going for around $200 for 2...depending on what temp you bought. A lot of guys split the purchase. 5,000 & 6,000k seem to be pretty popular. Installation is straight forward. You have to pull the nose fairing and install a ballast, igniter and install the bulb. Xenonking.com is a good source. If you tell them you're from the Org...they'll probably give you a discount. The lowbeam on the Busa is the H7 bulb. Phillips is also a good brand , but will cost a little more than the McCullough. This is an awesome upgrade.

Okay, it seems the color of the light changes with the temperature of the HID. If I understand this correctly, the color starts off with a deep blue/violet color at 12000k, and ends up yellowish in color at 3000k.

So, out of 12000k, 10000k, 8000k, 6000k, 5000k, and 3000k, which one gives off the whitest light with just a *hint* of blue to it? Would that be the 6000k or the 5000k?

sounds like 5000 is the answer to you...besides if you get that you gotta consider this...3x brighter than the rest? a butt head cager in front of you will do something stupid...had to keep that in mind...

It should be the 6k for McCullough, the 5k has a touch of yellow to it. Might be different for Phillips.

I think the 5000K is going to be a little less blue than what you're looking for. I know you referenced my photo of the 6000K as looking too blue, but that photo, for some reason, makes it look more blue than it is in person. I think you would be happy with the 6000K.

Looking at my bike at night gives off just a hint of blue. I would have to see both 5000K and 6000K side by side to say which one I like better, but I think the 5000K is going to be too white.

Check these out.

The blue is not that bad. I light up 3 lanes of the freeway now at night. I've be caught out at night with my dark shield on my helmet and still was able to see very very well.
