help 2nd gear stalling

hello all! for the last week or two have been having problems with 2nd gear. Only when I've been riding for a while, and the bike is well warmed up, shifting into 2nd gear stalls the bike for a few seconds then it jump starts itself and runs ruff for a few more seconds like learning how to drive a manual shifter in a car for the first time, then kicks in fine. Any comments or suggestions on what to check would be appreciated. Again, this only seems to happen when the bike has been running for 30 minutes or so or after getting off freeway.

I'm having a very similar problem with my 99. I've got close to 40,000 Km on it and have been trying to trouble shoot this problem for a little while.

I'm going to try disconnecting my PCIII USB and see if it will stop stalling / hesitating. Do you have a Power Commander on your bike?

Next I'm heading for vacuum leaks. It seems to behave as if that's the issue.

Ensure your idle speed is correct. Maybe not your problem, but it gets lots of people. It should be 1150rpm.

When was the last time you changed you spark plugs?
