Helmet Mods and tweaks

Hey Thrash, I have a Shoei TZ-1, I know I could really go for one of those auto tinting models.

Where do you carry your spare face shield?

I almost always wear a back pack I purchased just for use when I ride. I place the spare shield in the back pack curved side down, then might pack a spare shirt of top of it.

I also carry my water in there and other items.. So for me it is not TOO much of an extra hassle, I would wear the back pack anyway. But it would be nice to have one less thing to carry AND it would be nice to not have to swap visors.

There was one time I was riding back from Reno at night and I should have pulled over and spent the 10 minutes to take my back pack off, pull everything out get the visor, change visors and put everything back. But I just didn't feel like messing with it. So I hit my high beams and just dealt with the lower visibility.
I have an idea, I think I can make a mod so my extra shield will fit in the hump. I'll post pictures if it works out, if it doesn't, I'll be looking for a new hump. Purple

don't worry about it thrasher, I have seen that he has been basically putting everyone else and their bikes down. I seen a thread he responded to about someone adding chrome to their bikes, he made the comment that chrome is for harleys. I think he just thinks he is above and better then everyone else on here. I have not seen him actually write a constructive post or make a positive comment to help anyone. He probably doesn't even own a busa. I'm suprised that Revlis or some of the other vets here haven't ripped into him yet for putting everyone else down.
Yeah, I kind of was thinking his sole purpose in life was to start shid.

Two separate threads about helmets and nothing positive to say and nothing constructive to say.

Without a doubt the individual does not seem to have anything to offer to the board in a positive way

I just did it, the flash on my camera doesn't work so I'll try to take pics tomorrow. I can now carry the spare face shield in my hump.

Um, has this thread already been hijacked, am I too late to talk on topic?

That is a cool idea.. would love to see it..

I did however talked to my friend today, and he said when it is all said and done, he should have an extra Shoei visor he is going to hook me up with that will be re-active / light sensitive.. what ever it is called

Would like to see your hump solution though

hey thrash, howdoes he do it, does he start off with a clear visor? I would like to have one done for a KBC VR-1 I can even supply a clear shield for him to use if you can do it to a clear shield.

That is the kicker.

The company that applies the coating that is light re-active, requires a clean shield, it cant have any kind of coating on it.

Apparently ALL visors from the factory are shipped for sales with a special coating on them.

My friend has to get them from the manufacturer BEFORE the coating is applied to the visors.

So what he gets are visors that have not completed the manufacturing process.

I wish it was as simple as just providing a clear shield, but it isn't..

Fellas,

I'm the mad scientist who has the patent on photochromic (reactive) visors. They automatically tint or lighten depending on the amount of sunlight (UV) present. I am currently in negotiations with several of the major players in the helmet industry and will let you guys know who picks it up first. I also invented the helmet power system HJC will be introducing in the spring--Its the same one Thrasherfox has in his Shoei.

..nice going.. ..thrash, I suppose the Mad S. is your pal, right? (..and welcome aboard!.) ..Mad S. if the twin-role visor finally comes through (and proven..) put me in for TWO - one for Shoei X-Spirit and one for Shoei RF-1000..

..yep, no more Arai's for this fellow here..
smile.gif

(Arais: noisy (AIRFLOW), overpriced (compared to EVERYTHING ELSE), RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE VISOR REPLACEMENTS!..

Wizard -

Yes Mad S. is my friend.

As far as the visor goes.. it works.. he showed me the first batch. It was in the back of his car in a protective covering, brought it out, totally clear, couldn't tell there was anything on it, after a few minutes it darkened.

It did not darken as much as either of us wanted, but there are high hopes future batches will darken more.

I know that part of it works. I think what needs to be tested now is how the coating stands up against air flow and impact of dirt, bugs etc. (I.E environmental abuse)

Hopefully I will have one soon and I will start testing it so I can give feed back to Mad S. as to how well it holds up in the environment.

I will try and post pics tomorrow of my helmet with the lights

..cool thrash..

keep us posted - I would love to be able to get rid of the shades during daytime (can't ride without them.. )

Awesome! Just what I want!!! I'm sick of messing with sunglasses, and I'm not willing to give up the clear visor...weather changes and I feel like I'm riding at night...

I'm VERY interested in the re-active visor for my HJC...yep, my HJC...great helmet, no problems with it...so what if I saved a few bucks and went cheaper...jeez slowbusa, you're kind of coming across as one of those 'holier-than-thou' types with some of your replies...

Thrasher, can I just email Kerry for inquiry on pricing? Thanks for the info!!

Yes.. please.... All I am is a test guinea pig for Kerry.. It is his business, his marketing..

That is why I put his email address up.. any questions inquiries please email him directly.... he is the man with the plan. I am just hoping to get some cool stuff kicked down to me once in awhile for testing stuff for him and providing good feedback on stuff I think is worthwhile...

yeah well some of us big head guys the companys won't make the better helmets in that size i have a HJC and i like it when ya talking 3X sizes i mean why don;t they make them i always wanted a KBC VR4 but they don't make them big enough
sad.gif

I'm sure a lot of us here would be willing to help in the testing process Mad S, just send us some shields and we'll test 'em for you, and then all our motorcycle buddies will see them, want them and buy them.
laugh.gif

I'll see what I can do as far as getting you guys some samples to play with. Thrasherfox said he would get some pics up later--let me know what you guys think of those mods as well.

How can you go riding!!! it is pouring rain here!!! and snowing in the mountains!!! don't you have any sympathy for us California folks!!!

Kevin.. the only idea that comes to mind is for you to paint a really really small face shield on the side of the hump…

I apologize for the last post here under my name. It was done by a 21 year old co-worker. He gets on this site and it automatically greets me with no password or anything. This kid has a GSX-R600 and his brother and I own 'Busas. I knew he was logging on under my name but didnt know he was doing stuff like this. The matter will be handled tomorrow. I just dont know how many other post are out there.

Personally, I've crashed hard in 2 different Arai helmets and they've kept me alive without concussion. I've never owned an HJC to put it down or praise it. I've also owned a Shoei and have nothing bad to say about it. I just have a big oblong shaped head and the Arai fits me well, though it is a little noisy and despite closing the vents it gets drafts.

Thats cool slowbusa -

Kind of UN cool about your co-worker..

Apparently there were a couple of other posts that someone made under your logon that was less than helpful..

Thanks for clearing it up.. and welcome to the board
