Has Anyone Successfully Imported A Busa?

Registered
Here we go...
Army just reassigned me from England to Arizona. While I was over there I found a 99 for 00 Busa. Before buying it I called customs in GA, FL, and AZ. All of them said that it would be good to go.
Fast forward a year and I'm now here in AZ. I have shipped it in my household goods, so it is here, locked in my garage. I am trying to get it "imported" and registered but everywhere I call has given me different information. I have been told that the AZ DOT has to do an inspection, then I was told no, any port of entry can do it, then I was to Customs at the Airport has to do the inspection, then that an RI had to handle everything. Right now I'm waiting on the only importer in the state to figure out if he wants to deal with it...
I have been fighting to get an answer since Dec!

So, my question is: has anyone done it and how?

Time for a Arizona gen one frame purchase . move everything to new frame . Problem solved . should take a day if your a good wrench to do it all

What C10 said may be easiest. I bought my 01 in Japan and brought it back, but it was an American spec. If you bought it in Japan, emissions is different and so is the speedo. The DMV may have a checklist for requirements to title?

I bought the bike in the UK, I have the NHSTA list of "Non-Conforming vehicles approved for importation."
The busa is on the list. the issue I am running into is that the AZ DOT can't find the VIN (because it's not a U.S. bike) and the EPA sticker.
I've checked with the DMV and they have no idea what to do about it.

Your bike is completely compliant with all FMVSS and EPA standards with the exception being a K/PH speedo without MPH marking as well. You will need a compliance letter from Suzuki, good luck getting one...

That was supposed to mean if it had a K/PH speedo it would need to be swapped out, not necessarily that it did have one.

The reason I brought it up is we have grey import specialist that bring bikes over from Japan that have kph clocks . Could make it difficult for Godfrey, but know nothing about importing so I wouldn't know ,good luck

You are correct. But no, this is a genuine UK busa, It's in MPH and I have all the MOT's, original owners manuals, etc... I bought it from my neighbor who bought it off the line. He parked it for a number of years because he got too comfortable going too fast, we got to talking about it and he offered to sell it to me for a price I couldn't refuse.
