GPS and Radar detector

What should I buy and on an average how much would it cost for me to have something which will let me use my Garmin GPS and/or Passport corded Radar Detector with my Busa?

Also, can you please let me know on an average how much it might cost me to get it done by a shop?

Disclaimer: I have no mechanical/electrical experience.

I think you can buy a hardwire kit for about $15 for each ..... kinda like the plug that goes into your lighter socket in a car, but instead it connects directly to your battery terminals and has a fuse in-line between your device and the battery.

Pretty straight forward. I used one for my RX65 and cell phone/ipod charger ... no probs and as hard as unscrewing the bolts on your battery to allow for enough room to slide in the metal connectors and then clamp the bolts back down.

There are far more fancy plugs & switches out there, but this way is very inexpensive and easy.

Thanks for your input Blckbrd.

But where would I put the devices? Is there a kit which will let me attach these?

I think that there is a kit for the steering column nut. Also, I believe there are kits that are brackets or clamps for the handle bars.

I used my GoPro gear to make a very stable and effective temporary holder. The suction-cup holder with its adjustable "arm" holds perfectly to the front top part of the fuel tank, and the power cord can be run under the tank and out where it is held in place by the two bolts.

On my Bird, i just used the windshield suction cup mount for the radar detector with no problems.

Check out that new radar detector for motorcycles ... the TPX ...on their site, they sell accessories like holders/brackets that I think are compatible.

oh nice...thanks guys ... I'll try to have a setup like the pic above ... but just wont b using any adhesive, as both my GPS and Escort Radar detectors are used with my car too .. mount will be the best option I think... now need to figure out how much it's gonna cost to get all installed n wired by a mechanic ???

Here is my Home made Garmin mount. Simple and functional. Its just a stick in the Hole type mount. it does hold on pretty good and low when you're tucked in.

All of my devices detach within seconds, I also use my RD and my iPod/iPhone in my car. I usually don't need my tomtom in the car and really use it more for accurate speed readings, but it can be tranferred to the car too! That is one of the reasons I mount it all with velcro, I use it on the bicycle too!! I admit it does look fugly without the devices attached but hey it works for me!!:beerchug:

It is not really hard to supply power to the devices, the RD is powered through the low beam headlamp and the tomtom and iPhone stays charged through 12v adapters routed through the tail section and under the tank!

there is a website that sells powercord kits. It just happens to be my fathers business. He just started up but the products are as good as claimed. I use them.

Check out 3BR Powersports | Baryl Power Ports | Power Sport Vehicles - Snowmoblie, Motorcycle, Adventure Bike, Cruiser, ATV.
We have more products coming out at the end of the month. One of which is a USB powerport/charger. This will supply power to units that require a USB cable to power or charge.

Note to Admins. As soon as product line is set we will get with Captain to work out sponsership of the site.

How well is your detector range with the antenna pointed toward the ground?

I have'nt had any problems as of yet, it seems to give me a pretty good window of warning! Originally I tried to use the supplied suction cup mount but the detector just bounced around too much! Maybe I will try another way to mount it higher and see if the range gets even better, I have used the current way for well over a year and a half.:beerchug:
