My main problem was that I looked down the ravine... do NOT look down the ravines!! I got fixated on how far down it was, then I had no fun and did the rest of the dragon in 1st gear.

Other than that. Have a great time. Don't ride past your limits. And enjoy!!

Oh, and the Phillips is a great place to stay.

Oh, and lots of pics... we need pics.

Take your time going through and do not let anyone pressure you. look out for other vehicles that will cross the yellow line. Take your time and ride at your own pase, because others will pass you. I hope you have a great trip and be safe. Post some pics when ya get back.

Simply take it easy and don't ride over your head. It will take time to get a feel for the roads. Be sure your bike is in tip-top condition: tires, suspension, clutch, etc. Also watch for oncoming traffic diving in to your lane when coming around blind corners.

Have fun!

Have fun. Take it easy the first few times through. Be curtious to faster riders and make it easy and safe for them to pass. Make sure your chain is clean, lubed, and adjusted properly. Take pics, lots of pics.

1st, enjoy my home away from home. I love the Gap!

2nd, I say it over and over to myself all the time, SMOOTH. Be smooth in all aspects of this road as with any road you get a chance to ride.

Look for yellow painted spots on the road or caution tape hanging from a sign. This will clue you in to a curve that needs special attention. It could be a double apex or a off-camber corner.

On you 1st pass take it easy, take a mental note of the road conditions, traffic patterns, LEO activity etc.

Look where you want to go. These curves are awsome and have I mentioned I love the Gap?

Watch for cars crossing into your lane. This used to be a major problem. It has slacked off the times I have been there this year.

If you see a tap on the helmet from a passing rider, SLOW DOWN! LEO is present.

If you see a rider riding very slow and waving their arms, they are probably escorting a semi through.

Lastly have a great time and enjoy some of the greatest roads on the East coast. Did I mention, I love the Gap?

Have fun at the gap, keep these points in mind:

#1 - Stay in your own lane, and be aware of other riders behind you.  Do not cut corners or ever cross the center line.

#2 - Wave faster riders through, or pull off to the right.

#3 - Wear protective gear.

#4 - Respect the locals.

#5 - Order your pictures from www.killboy.com

How to ride the dragon

Tail of the Dragon site

Read the first page, know it, read it again....  the second link has TONS of good info

What others have said, PLUS stay off the painted lines.. They get slicker than crap when they get a hot or wet.  Otherwise that how to ride the dragon is good.

Check the other area roads on the tail site too....way too many to list here

I will see you there going up saterday morning until sunday doing a Ironarse weekand...Take your time and watch out for the fools...

BE CAREFUL. I can't say anything that hasn't been said already. Come on up guys. I think me and a friend are going to do a breakfast run Sat as do most of the locals. Enjoy and if you see a cranberry/black 06 solid wine helmet come over and say hey.

My suggestion is to KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN! Follow the wisdom listed above and you should have a great time!

Hey Chris, I've got a karate tournament to work Sat but I may just have to make the breakfast run Sunday morning. One of these days we'll get together.

Man, your coming to my Backyard, and I don,t know what you,ve read, or been told, (which I,m sure is valuble info), but my advice is to just ride the first couple of passes slow and enjoyably, and take in the beautiful sights and veiws, and when you get to the store, and take a minute or two to reflect on the ride you have just encountered, decide then, how YOU want to ride the rest of the ride. I have riden the gap on MANY differant types of bike,s, and I LOVE my BUSA, but it is not the fastest of my stable, at the gap, but it is my favorite bike to take there. Just stay in YOUR limits and will have the ride of your life.
