Glass Mountain

Finished a new article on Glass Mountain - yes, it's a mountain of glass.

Found way up in the north eastern corner of California near the Oregon border adjacent to Lava Beds National Monument.

Quick stop at the fire lookout

All that black stuff is lava flows.

Then head on up Tionesta Rd to Glass Mountain. But not in late May, still snowed in.

3 miles of dirt road to get there.

View isn't too bad though.

Buck up buttercup, couple miles of dusty gravel will get you to the lava flow.

A mountain of obsidian rock. Interesting stuff.

Hey Tim....good to see you posting. I went by Glass Mountain a few years ago on my way from Lava Beds to Burney Falls. I couldn't take the road off the highway to the top but I thought about it. Hopefully next time.

I did ride my VFR 800 to Obsidiam Dome, near Mammoth Mountain once, which was absolutely amazing!

The Craters of the Moon National

Monument and Preserve in southern Idaho has miles and miles of these fields. Stumbled onto it taking a different route into West Yellowstone one year. Amazing riding country.
