Have a gen1 that I bought in parts for next to nothing. Even the engine was fully taken apart. Story was a hard noise under load so crank&rod are bad. So I puzzled it all together, still found a cracked head, broken thermostat, and many small things that showed years of neglect. Found a nice fairing and mufflers which made a huge difference! I think I'm trough the worst of it and now finishing up the small stuff, like this one:
The (aftermarket) gear indicator and neutral stop working when the bike is hot. The hotter it gets, the more its off. Within 5min after a cold start the lower gears and neutral stop indicating, and after 15min it indicates only 6th gear in any gear and sometimes briefly 5th. Wiggling the shifter doesnt do anything. After cooling down its fine again. Neutral already had this problem before adding the gear indicator. Sprayed the connector under the tank with cleaner but no result. Wiggling the part of the wire which is outside the clutch: nothing. Measured the sensor resistor values and they are ok when cold, but not when hot. So I need to dig into the clutch. Probably dirty contacts, and/or springpins that dont make proper contact with the gear drum. Since it gradually gets worse when hot, I dont think its a broken wire issue especially since it doesnt move around in the engine, but will try to check for that too. Gonna take it apart soon and see what is what. Any thoughts of course appreciated!
