Gas tank - 2001 vs 2003

Does a 2003 gas tank fit on a 2001 bike? On the 2003 tank, the two external vent lines hook up slightly different from the 2001 but I think it should work. Also, the way the gas cap bolts to the tank might be different but I still need to remove/inspect it from the 2001 tank to be certain it fits the 2003. Does anyone know for sure if it's a direct replacement before I commit to buying the 2003 tank? Thanks.

The only thing that may be different is the fuel pump wiring. 01 is a bastard year and I'm not sure how that affects the fuel pump. Physically any gen 1 tank will fit fine, only difference being that 99/00 bikes have an external pump, 01-07 pumps are internal.
