Fuel Tank Swap!

Since I ride a 99, of course I have to deal with the external fuel pump..As a random trip down to florida proved that in the 80 degree weather and horrible traffic, If I ride and get the bike to normal riding temp, shut it off, wait a little, and go to restart...it just cranks, no fire.

If I wait to let it completely cool off it'll fire right up like normal. So my guess is Plugs, Injectors and Fuel Pump.

Now my question is, can I swap a newer tank with an internal pump or am I better off buying an aftermarket external pump? I live in Indiana and it has NEVER done this before. Normally starts on the second crank up north, but since I've been here it takes 10+ cranks to fire. Runs like normal when its running BTW.

probably vapor lock.
use an external pump and mount under in fron of the rear shock on swingarm
or you can do in in tank setup like a gen 2

Thats my question...can I buy a 01-07 tank and everything be fine and dandy going back together? Or should I just say screw it and buy an external?

Your better off in the long run with an internal setup. It will bolt fine but you will need the newer fuel rail fitting and hard plastic line. You will also have to splice the wiring for the newer fuel pump. I recommend using a gen2 fuel pump as they are newer and potentially less miles.

Busabaker,

Once again I am posting that swapping tanks is a COMPLETE waste of time and money. I have used this dual pump set up for 2 years with no starting issues in over 100 degree weather.

First clean out all the fuel filters and add secondary low pressure fuel pump. Total cost $50.

see first thread below. My thread on how to solve the problem!
