Fuel pump gasket/oring questions

I pulled the fuel pump out so I can drain the tank before sending it to the painter.Anyway, what is supposed to be between the pump and tank??Mine had gasket sealer and what a pain to get off.Should I clean/change the filter/strainer as well??Whats needed for that??

On a GenII there is a thick rubber o ring that sits in the groove. If yours is a GenII than I would def clean that off and put proper o ring in it.

Gen 1.There wasnt any sealer in the oring groove, just around it.I found the oring but $17, wow.Can I just match it up or is it a specific material??

I have them in stock. I supply them with my fuel adapter plate for Turbo and Nitrous Wet kits.

I used some gas proof gaskets maker from autozone, goin on 3 years with no issues.
