Hey everyone, was just talking about Suspension and a question came about that I didnt know the answer to. So I figured I would ask the pro's on this board.

We were wondering, on the GXR1k there are 2 adjustments on the forks. What does the Top adjustment's do? The ones near the tripple clamp up top, and what do the bottom adjust?

Also, when cornering....there is a huge missunderstanding. Is it the Stiffer the Front end the more aggressive you can enter a corner? Can some one explain these things out? Just wondering and want to set things strait.

I have heard of the Book "A twist of the wrist" but havent read it. Just asking for some info here about cornering yall. Thanks again!

The bottom adjustment (Compression) adjust the rate the forks compress under load such as braking.

The top adjustment screw (Rebound) adjust the rate the forks rebound from their compressed position to their neutral position.

The 14mm nut on top of the forks adjust the spring tension.

Aren't there three adjustments? Two up on the triple-tree, and one at the bottom of the fork?

Preload and compression on top, and rebound on the bottom?

Nope, Preload and rebound are on top and compression is on the bottom.

You don't want the front to be stiffer than the rear. You generally want the front and rear to be balanced, however there are some reasons to make them unbalanced.

Stiffer suspension is generally for faster corners because the higher speed compresses the suspension. Basically the higher the forces(due to speed, weight, & banking) the more damping and stiffer springs you need.

Softer suspension is generally desirable on slower corners and bump absorbtion.

Hope that helps
