I was stationed at Fort Hood when the last mass shooting occurred. It took a long time for our community to get over that one. We all expected Luby's to shut down, but it didn't. They redid the facade and opened for business. Thankfully they finally went out of business. The last time I went through Killeen it had become a gaudy Chinese food restaurant. It should have been torn down and a huge memorial built.
Killeen and Fort Hood will recover from this, but it'll take a while. The Luby's shooting still hurts to this day.....the latest shooting just adds to that grief. God bless all who live in the area.
To further my thought on the Luby's massacre, Col. Dody, thank you for the coffee. It was so cold that day and you took the time to walk out to my guard post to warm me up with liquid gold and your warm stories. It broke my heart when I heard you had been taken from us. Us soldiers still think about you, sir. Please take care of the newcomers.
