Ok, here's the deal: I just got a 99 with 7500mi. What do I need to look out for? Are there any serious problems I need to have the shop check? Please let me know, people! Thanks!

I bought a 2000 a few months ago and was told to check to see if it had the 'cam chain tensioner' fix done. I called Suzuki and they had the service response saying that it had. I would think that would apply to the '99 also. All I needed for them to check was the VIN. The shop should be able to tell you also.
You'll probably get other tips from the board here. There's a great deal of knowledge here. Good luck. :D

Thanks! You wouldn't happen to know any tips for me to get to 220mph any faster, would you?

Check the sub-frame for cracks. The sub-frames on the older bikes tend to crack and have to be welded.

Getting to 220 faster?

turbo, lose some weight from the bike, tailwind.

PB Call American Su. and have your serial & vin #'s ready they are pretty cool about sharing history of the bike.

hey still wonderin whats yo location?

Thanks fellas! Keep the input flowing in! I do appreciate it. I'm aware of the fuel pump (even the fuel lines, guys!), the subframe and the CCT. There was even a nasty rumor about the starters for 99-02 models (is it true?). Oh, and Hawaii, I'm about a thousand miles from you. I'm on a little island between you and Japan. Anyone hearda "Guam" before? If you ever come out this way, Hawaii, there'll be a ton of riders to go with on the weekends. Thanks for all the input, fellas! Please let the noob know of anything else he needs to watch out for. Until then, everybody stay cool and ride safe!

starter motor was a prob on mine its a2000 ry model. its been upgraded to 03 spec along with new crankshaft etc etc. well it will be when i get it back, 4 weeks now but all sorted by suzuki even though bike was out of warranty by 5 months. service you cant fault, treat people with respect and they bend over backwards to help.

When I read "tropical island 33 miles long", I knew you were on Guam. I lived there for two years while in the Air Force. I lived in Dededo. The heat is a killer.

The speed limit is 35 MPH on the Island. Drove me nuts trying to go anywhere. I couldn't imagine having a Busa over there, but I guess you could open it up on the back road.

Heat? You should swing by now. Temps range from 90 degs to about 98 or 99. It's gotten a whole lot hotter lately. And in Dededo? Man, there's so many cars there that I wouldn't even think about going up there. We also opened up a drag strip here, so it'll be cool to open her up there. If you ever come back, let me know, and we'll hit the South.
