Greetings to all. I am the proud owner of a slightly used 02 limited edition black Busa. I have been lurking here and reading other posts for the past few months and I finally decided to share my ownership story, for what it’s worth. I decided last January to take the plunge and get another sportbike, my first being an 89 Katana 600 that I purchased in 1989 from a salvage yard and converted to a race bike, I never actually rode that bike on the street. I still own a Harley as well as a Goldwing and have been riding off and on since 1978. Yeah, I’m an old man, I turned 50 this year. I researched different bikes ZX’s, R1’s, etc., reading different message boards, rider reports, as well as shopping them on Ebay. My criteria was to get a bike that looked good, had a high power to weight ratio, handled reasonably well, and had a reasonable amount of aftermarket equipment available for tailoring the bike to my height and weight (6’2†& 225lbs). Oh yeah, it had to be able to lift the front wheel when I whack the throttle open, not that I routinely do such things – it just had to have that kind of ‘feeling.’ I settled on the limited edition Busa because it seemed to meet my criteria and I liked the black-on-black paint and frame combo. I live in the DC area and found the bike in Cleveland OH back in June on Ebay. Purchase made, plane ticket in hand I met the owner at the Cleveland airport and my first ride was the 400 plus mile ride home that Saturday. I must say, I was unprepared for the power, the gearing and the overall experience. Very long legs on this bike – stock gearing, stock pipes, stock tires, stock everything. Believe it or not the ride home was great, no real discomfort even for being in the saddle for 5 hours. I’m still getting used to the bike, it’s more powerful than anything I’ve ever ridden – there’s definitely a pucker factor when I whack the throttle and boy oh boy do things happen fast. I also have come to the conclusion that the front end and I need to come to terms, as in it needs springs and adjustments more suited to my weight. Any suggestions on where to get the springs/valve kits, instructions and tools will be appreciated. I am very impressed with this forum; there is a wealth of shared experience and general good will that I find refreshing. My thanks to those of you out here who contribute to it and provide us new owners with a sense of community and valuable insight.
