Extend Chain

I am going 12over with my arm and will need to extend my chain. Instaed of buying a new chain I was wondering if I could add a few links to my existing chain until I can figure out where I want to set my arm permanently. I don't have the money to buy a new chain, and this would just be a temporary fix until I get it set right, then I will buy a new chain.
What are the issues with this if any? Is this safe to do until I can figure it out?

I wouldn't do any hole shots or WOT runs with a pieced together chain.The 2 pieces you put together are not gonna meet the sprockets the same.As in one chain wore more than the other.
