Hello,
I messed around with mine 2 years ago now. I disconnected the pink wire from the brain (plain pink -not one with white stripe on it) Personally I thought the difference was outstanding. I wanted to see if it really made a difference so I went to a dyno man in Chingford, who kindly did a rolling road for free. The results on rolling road were marginal in favour of disconnection, but that was without a forced air feed(no ram air).
I found that as soon as I disconnected it, the bike was smoother, and dam quicker. Pull through 2nd and 3rd very very good.
NOW- Loads of people have different ideas on this. I researched it a lot, because, obviously I didn't want to damage my machine.
Apparently, by disconnecting the pink wire you 'fool' the brain into thinking it is in 6th gear map. 2nd and 3rd gear are reatrded on the ignition (slightly) for emission and sound regs. So, with the wire disconnected, every gear is getting more juice with the sixth gear map. If you are in USA do not disconnect cause apparently it fools the brain into a 1st gear map, which makes the bike run to lean(bad bad).
As I said, I disconnected mine 2 years ago, 18000miles later, no damage(that I can see or hear), runs smoothly, starts no problem, no trouble to date,(touches wood). I connected it back up when I took mine for its last warranty service and I noticed that it was running normally which was shite!!
Lots of people will prob say that it don't make a blind bit of difference, but as I say, I noticed a hell of a difference.
Try it if you like and see what you think.
By the way - don't run down to your garage and cut it!!!
If you look at the plug there is a plastic insert on the plug, if you push it with a penny it 'pops' out. You can then remove the wire(and pin) from the plugs so that you can replace it without any problem should you wish to do so.
Hope this answers your question.
