Dunlop D218's vs. Michelin Piolt Powers...

Got in another 50 miles this evenin' and was doin' my post ride tire inspection when I realized that the Dunlop D218's that came on the 10 are already showin' considerably more wear at just over 300 miles than the Pilot Powers I put on Train were showin' at +/- 600 miles. The D218's chew/rough up and "roll" the trailin' edges of the grooves, much like Train's stock tires did. The Powers wore smooth. I never saw them chew, rough up. At around 600 miles they barely showed any wear at all.

The D218's like a fair amount of warm up before they want to grip and even then don't seem to have that positive connection with the road that the Powers did. The 218's seem to grip better than Train's stockers, but they just aren't as confidence inspiring as the Powers at all. Oh well, looks like they won't last long anyway. Train had the stockers into the wear bars at just under 1500 miles. Looks like the D218's won't last much longer than that on the 10. Then I can get me a set of Powers and once again be in love with my rubbers.

Here's a few pics of the wear after this evening's ride. The chicken strips are still there, but they're MUCH smaller than they were in the last pics that showed them. I haven't found a corner tight enough on the street to "NEED" to get over any further. I'm sure I could "push it under" in some of the corners around here and get it to the edge. With proper ridin' technique though, it would take a pretty serious corner and some pretty serious corner speed to hit the edge. Not sure I wanna push the D218's that far. I think I'd feel more confident pushin' to the edge with a set of Powers on it though. Guess I'll find out soon enough...

BT ... thanks for the report and the pics. I'm switching to the Pilot Power's next week as my Diablo's have just about had it at 7k miles. I'm very happy with them, but I've just got to know if the Power's are even better.

Be sure and give me your thoughts on the Powers since you're comin' from Diablo's. I'm tempted to try Diablo's actually, but I liked the Powers so much that it would be hard to try somethin' new.

The only "problem" I've heard of regarding the Powers is the fact that they stick so good that by the time they slide, yer pushin' 'em so hard that they just wash out. They supposedly hold right up to the ragged edge of possible traction. That's great as long as you stay within' that limit. I've just read where people say that the instant the Powers slide, yer gone.

I left a few darkies comin' off of corners accordin' to my ridin' buddy, but never felt it break traction. Maybe they slide in such a way that it's really undetectable. I never felt a loss of positive connection to the road but it had to be either spinnin' or slidin' to some degree to leave darkies. Maybe they slide, but by the time you "FEEL" the slide it's too far gone... I dunno.

I had Dunlop's Before on my 750 twice... Hated them but they were cheap.... Just my opinion but I really HATE Dunlops... No communication, no feel... Poor wear.... Good N Grippy, but no warning out at the edges of adhesion they SNAP... They don't Push... FUG THAT...
