DIY Battery Charger?

For any electrical types,
Would it be possible to use a simple mains-to-12V adaptor as a battery charger. If you just apply the 12V power supply to the bike battery, surely the bike battery will charge up to the same level as the adaptor.
All you need to do then is put some crocidile clips on the wires and hey presto.

What exactly is inside these battery chargers other than a transformer and regulator and some caps?

Dont do it that is a good way to cook your battery, The battery tenders have a regulator in them that stops the charge when the battery is full.

Oh double ditto on this one! My wife used a left over charger on one of her 'decorative' neon lights and that mutha got hotter than a $2 pistol. 05BusaLe has another good point, those little DC chargers have a constant power output, it will charge and charge and charge until your battery is cooked. Spend the money and at least get a Battery Tender Jr.

Glad you asked first or you would have been singing one of the hit tunes by the Talking Heads (Burning down the house) in the middle of the street in you undies. .
