- you can sometimes get around Company website blocking software by entering the site IP Address. Go to Start / Run / cmd [enter] (if it lets you), in the black box type in: ping www.whatever.com [enter] and you see an address like 25.453.12.67 and enter THAT number in your browser.
* keep in mind ALL access that passes trough computers at work is probably tracked.... probably never checked, but tracked

- if you google something but are blocked from seeing that page, use the GOOGLE CACHE listed below the link and most of the info pops right up

- FIREFOX Browser has less than 20% market share, and thus less than 20% adware, spyware, viruses than Internet Explorer

- you can download music totally free [like tape recording it] using Winamp, Streamripper and Shoutcast. Install the first two, goto shoutcast and pick a music style and hit START

- ZONEALARM is a totally free, better than windows firewall, because you can SEE what accessing the net

- Grisoft makes a totally free, auto updating Antivirus software package

all I know is if the font is too small/large, hold down control and scroll up or down with the button on the mouse.

Yeah, I' m technically challenged.

hey i didn't know that one. I know you can resize the entire website by pressing CTRL and + or -. that's kinda fun

no other gurus here have tricks to share? ? ? ?

WWJD, I tried the Shoutcast thing. Pretty cool. Sorry don't have any cool internet things or I would post them....

Tabbed browsing is the bomb. If you're not using Firefox, SeaMonkey or the latest version of Internet Explorer (?), try it!

SWEET! I just used that to resize the annoying large icons on the windows vista desktop. Thanks a lot.

I didn't know all that, BUT I did know this I lost a few friends last year for going or trying to go around the Company's website blocking software! I they want to look they can see anything they want. There is no reason to try this, wait till you get home. To "surf". Sure I still hit a few places when I am at work, but I have cut my surfing down to a bare min. My wife's job, if they catch you at a non-work related site your gone, period that day that minute!
Thankful I can still get to the org. It would make for a long graveyard, if I couldn't.

We can surf anywhere we want as long as it isn't porn. They don't monitor our usage. But then again, then want us to integrate our home and work lives so that they have us available 24x7. Trade-offs I guess.

First thing you should know... FireFox rocks. Tabbed browsing is the Bomb...

Also in Firefox, Searching for a particular thing in a page? Just hit the /? Key while NOT in a Text window, and it'll bring up a little Search window at the bottom of the screen... Schweet! Your window will immediately go to that word. Also the inline spell checking is a huge bonus.

Agreed. I have 6 tabs open looking for music to load into the new cell.

You can use Meebo.com to chat on most ISPs that are normally blocked by a firewall.

ok I will play.

This one is my favorite shortcut.

Instead of typing www.ebay.com, type ebay in the address bar and hit control+enter. It will fill in the www. and the .com to the address.

All I know is that my coworker over in the corner has one of these in his office...

Spybot S&D has an immunization feature (a .dll file) that will block known crap from messing up IE. (I can't stand firefox)

Use google hosts file to block nasty websites.

Adaware, Spybot, AVG, and BHOdemon (too bad the creator is no longer supporting/updating it) running, I'll click on ANY website using IE without fear of wrecking my pc.

Configure IE so it won't allow ANY popups. You need to hold CTRL to allow blocked content.

About half or more of windows services can be turned off to protect/speed up your computer. UPNP is one of the worst to have on unless you actually need it.

(Wel_Crap @ Aug. 16 2007,07:19) Did you know....They have the internet on computerrs now!!! No seriously, they really do!!
