Deputy shoots and kills prisoner in Hospital

ELKHORN - Authorities said Tuesday that a Walworth County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed an inmate in custody at a medical center in Walworth County.
Alfredo Villarreal, 18, was shot and killed inside the Aurora Medical Center at about 6:45 p.m. Monday night.
"It did happen in an in-patient setting," explained Adam Beeson of Aurora Health Care to TODAY'S TMJ4's Charles Benson.
"It was not in our emergency department...our caregivers were not close to the incident, nor were other patients."
According to the sheriff's department, Villareal was undergoing tests in the hospital for a personal medical issue.
While there, he went after the deputy to try and escape. He allegedly punched and kicked the deputy multiple times in the face.
The deputy attempted to use a stun gun, but it did not stop Villareal. He then tried to break a window in his room with a chair, then went after the deputy with the chair.
The deputy shot the inmate, and Villareal died at the scene.
The incident happened right across the street from the Walworth County Sheriff's Department.

After reading that they seem to word it as a self defense as they should...it would be bad scene getting worse very fast...the situation can escalate faster than one can comprehend...then it becomes survival mode for those in the room...loss of life is always sad for the family

I agree with you 100% BUT you just made the cause for why we as private law abiding citizens need to abilty to arm ourselves to protect our lives along with the lives of our loved ones.

I'd like to hear the whole story. Can't tell you how many times prisoners have whined to the medical staff about their restraints and medical staff have demanded that the restraints be removed. But I can tell you how many times I've complied with their request. Zero.

Ok who let the crazies out, oh yea i forgot.... The government!!

I find the blatant humor and indifference in regard to the loss of lives in this thread somewhat appalling. Have you all grown so callous? What is next, public executions or Roman Arena style entertainment with blood shed and gore like UFC to the death?

No more callous than the governors, senators, congressmen, represenitives, news broadcasters and President regarding Sandy Hook.

The question to you and the audience is: Do we have to exhibit callousness because we observe the "Roman" Leadership of this country does so? Is this the right thing to think? If so, elaborate. If not, provide a helpful suggestion to forward to the White House.

It's not that we follow their lead, its more a state of society. I really don't think anything can be done, unfortunately.

Projekt I kinda see where your coming from. From what I read the kid was 18. He is a legal adult and obviously broke some law(s) to wind up incarcerated but at 18 I doubt he was a hardened criminal repeat offender menace to society lost cause. So to make comments like good riddence and he had it coming seems callous to me without knowing his rap sheet. Was he a murderer, rapist, or a pedophile? Idk? Or was he just a young dumb kid that got caught with drugs, DUI, or a bar fight? Once again idk?.......... But it is not for me to judge because I know that I'm not perfect nor have I ever met anyone that is......... We all make bad choices some just aren't as lucky as others. With that being said I know somebody will chime in and say I am siding with the inmate which I'm not. The police officer did what he felt was necessary and was justified in his actions. I just don't understand why it was only 1 officer with him. Typically protocol dictates 2 escorts anytime outside of the prison just 4 reasons such as this

I feel what you are saying and I know where it comes from but that is precisely the kind of thinking they want you to have. Fact of the matter is that they are our elected representatives. The collective voice per say. If the collective voice is only composed of the ten wealthiest business owners or a consortium of wealthy, then it is the entire voice. Now, if we the people come together and push hard on the representative with lots of written letters, he/she will abide by our wishes to the best of his ability. That is one of the fundamental concepts of political science.

:beerchug: Thanks for the genuine answer. I think most readers are too busy to sit and type out their thoughts. You probably represent the majority in all actuality. When a man is cornered and there is no way out and he knows that a troop is coming for him the survival instinct kicks in and it is animal in nature which is precisely what I believe happened in this instant. He went Fight or Flight and tried to do both only to wind up dead. It is tragic, no young man should end up like that. I was 18 when I joined the Air Force and I have lived another lifetime of 18 years since.

A little more information on this story.

The kid was 18, Elkhorn is a small farming community where you can leave your doors unlocked. The hospital is across the street from the jail and the only one within a 30 minute drive or so.
The kid requested to use the head and was granted the permission. (for DO3's thought). An outside agency is conducting the investigation for Walworth county. The Deputy tried tazing the kid and "It did not work" per the deputy, the kid tried to break a window with a chair and when that did not work he went after the deputy with the chair and that was when he was shot and killed. I was no tin the room with these 2 so I am armchair policing when I say this- There are/were other options to restrain this young man oter than pushing lead and taking his life. Gun shots should be the last resort.

Now to answer Projekts question. As I laid in bed last night unable to sleep I thought long and hard about all of the shootings lately (Vegas, Aurora, 4 Here, Newtown...).
Again I come to the same conclusions - Nobody seems to take life seriously, a gun should be the last resort for conflict resolution not the first. Mental health does need to be addressed. The issue is being tackled by the military and failing. It is sad when a person reaches that low point where they feel no life is better than the life they have. It is even more painful when they feel the need to make others suffer by taking innocent people with them when they exit this world.

This nor any other death is a matter to joke about or blow off. Yes we have too many people on this earth but death is not a joke.

Shooting him wasn't the first thing he did. The article states the police officer was kicked and punched in the face multiple times. He didn't shoot him for coming at him with a chair, he was getting a beat down.
