Cult (Legendary) bikes you've owned...

I was thinking this morning about some of the cult or legendary bikes I've owned...some are questionable if they are in this category but I remember reading the original moto-journalists write ups on some of them stating they were..

Just a short but not complete list of bikes I've owned I think were in this category

Kawasaki triple (250 and 500)
RD 400 Daytona
Gen 1 RZ350
Gen 2 Katana
Gen 1 GSXR 750 (came as a factory race bike)
GSXR 1100 WP first year water cooled
Gen 1 Bandit
And now the Gen 2 Hayabusa

I've owned other bikes but none I'd really say fit into the cult/legendary category...

Legendary? I guess these will do. The CB750 was my first new bike. Bought it after dark on a Friday and took it in Monday for the 600 mile service. :) Burnt up in a garage fire in the mid 80s. Sold the first year (79) CBX with 70K on it after riding it thru six states. The last year CBX, an 82 sold with 106K after riding it thru eleven states. Great touring rig! Even made the cover of a magazine with a story of my tour

. And of course, the last Gen1 LE.

I'd add the Kawasaki HII (750 2 stroke triple) and the Z1 900, and I wouldn't limit your last entry to the Gen 2. Also, the Gen 1 Yamaha FZ1 was a little quicker stock than a Gen 1 Bandit.

I've never owned a gen 1 Hayabusa but it is definitely a legendary/cult bike along with the gen 3 now..

I've never heard any reference to an FZ1 being a legendary/cult bike...perhaps it was.
The performance difference between it and a gen 1 Bandit was negligible...that would be reliant on the rider..I do know the FZ1 was a PITA to work on or tune..Although I did like the FZ1, especially the yellow and black ones...

What about some significant bikes you've ridden but didn't own...??

I rode a couple cool 250s, one was a Yamaha TZR and a Suzuki 250 Walter Wolf Edition

I rode a race ready RGV250 at Mosport Park in the early '90s...it was very fun, I would have liked to actually race one..

I rode a 1944 BSA dispatch bike...that was an experience, I could only imagine guys riding all over Europe on one of these during the war...

'94 GSX-R750W, 2 TL1000Rs, 2 B-Kings, 2 Gen1 Hayabusas, 1 Gen2 Hayabusa, 2 '82 Katana 1100s, 1 '83 Katana 750/1260, 1 '85 Katana 750 pop-up, 3 GS1100Es (80, 81, 83), '10 ZX-14, '02 Ducati 748S/853....

Cult? Legendary? Some of my other past bikes were also legendary to me but likely not to the mainstream.

Those are some great bikes to have owned...

Yes the difference between the FZ1 and Bandit was negligible, but having owned an '03 FZ1 and ridden a 1200 Bandit, I had to comment :). I later put an Ivan's carb kit and Leo Vince exhaust on it and it remains one of my favorite all time bikes, and I think one of the better kept secrets in motorcycling. That 5 valve motor was remarkable.

I always liked the FZ1, it was a good looking bike as well...I rode a yellow and black one and it was a cool bike.

I did a bunch of work to my Bandit and made it into a pretty ferocious beast in it's own right..

The Bandit was also one of those kept secrets...

I don't know about legendary, but with the restomod trend these days I would have loved turn my old 78 GS750 E into one, with a big bore GS1150 motor and trick suspension.

I was just out talking to one of my neighbors...we were talking bikes and although he never owned one, his brother who lives in another city is a big motorcycle guy...

In the '80s he made it his mission to buy each and every factory turbo bike...according to this neighbor he got them all and had them for years...eventually selling them off one at a time. I am looking forward to the next time his brother visits so we can talk bikes...

Apparently he was visiting one time not long ago and noticed my bike and meant to come over and check it out but never did...

In 1994 I bought a '84 GpZ900A1, orange and grey model, the first model that came out and it was a great bike . . I was riding with 4 guys on GSXR1100 slabsides, I could keep up, just.
Then I had to get with the program and get a GSXR so I got a '91 GSXR1100M and what a muscle bike that was! Then my buddies on the slabsides had to try to keep up with me lmao.
Since then I've had a RD350LC, and RD250W Gamma, GSXR1100G, a GSXR750J with a big bored 1052cc (up to 1109cc) GSXR1100 motor fitted (that was fun) then a GSXR1000K6, and my current '99 Gen 1 Busa.
All legendary/cult machines and so much fun and soooooo many rides to far flung places in New Zealand.
Good times.
