Anybody have any good tricks or free websites to clean out my system? I've run spybot and norton av but they don't find anything wrong. My system is crawling slow and locks up alot. Will a standard av find "worms" and "trojan horses". I have no idea. My hard drive is still 70% empty. Stupid "adult sites" lured me in.

- uninstall ALL Symantec Norton stuff
- run disk cleanup and pretty much checkmark everything but COMPRESS OLD FILES
- find, download, install and run CCLEANER, the file side AND the registy side
- uninstall ALL programs you don't use. first try their menu, then try ADD AND REMOVE, or if no uninstall, delete the directories and icons
- delete everything WINDOWS/PREFETCH directory
- move EVERYTHING out of STARTUP folder
- run MSCONFIG and uncheck mark everything in the STARTUP tab, then goto services and CHECK MARK "don't show Microsoft services" or whatever at the bottom, and uncheckmark everything left
- install SP3 [xp?]
- install free AVG antivirus [or avast]
- run defrag
reboot. and reboot AT LEAST once a week
Best way: reinstall the Operating System. Thats the absolute best way. It will feel like a brand new FAST computer. I rebuild mine about once every year

c cleaner is the best thing out there. and its free! get rid of al lthat norton stuff, its crap.. and they make people pay for it.
Find any worms or trojans? I have to echo what WWJD suggested reference an entire rebuild. Once you've been infected with some of this stuff it's the best thing to do.
