We will be takin a ride to Gulf Shores and take the Daulpin Island Ferry over Mobile Bay this morning. We plan on takin pictures and will post some tommorow when we get home. So far no gas smell, unless I eat Taco Bell.
Well that would just suck, the mood here is quite apprehensive and a bit pissy towards the whole oil on the shore and beaches let alone the fragile ecosystem and estuary. Our seasonal economy has really been hurting as of late and the mear threat of crappy beaches wouldn't help either. The whole situation is just disgusting. So many effected and so much will be lost.
It is just sad at the lack of response from BP and the US government. There is a whole hell of a lot more that they could be doing. It just seems that they don't care and are dragging their feet. I wonder if they just don't want to pay the money for the clean up. They are still having problems in Alaska from the Exxon Valdez spill.
We went for a weekend ride out to BusaJules and DocDrop's. We took the Dauphin Island ferry and it was buisness as usual over there. Clean up crews were all over the place. Some working as clean up but most pre-staging for and if the big spill will hit. They are kickin ass at it too!!! Hats off to those folks!! Went to work last night and when I walked out the door, there was the very definite smell of petroleum.
Hurricane Season 2010: Experts Predict Bad Storms - TIME
(from the article)
Major anniversaries of natural disasters are usually times to reflect with awe on the forces the planet can unleash — and to acknowledge the human suffering that too often results. The fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's assault on the Gulf Coast, coming up at the end of August, will almost certainly serve as a prime example.
But the coastal states may not have the luxury of looking back at 2005. If a growing number of forecasts are correct, the hurricane season of 2010 could be a monster — one that will have the Eastern states from the Gulf of Mexico to New England fearfully watching the sea all summer.
Just got back from a little trip out to Horn Island (South of Biloxi MS).... no oil.. Lots of Boom being staged and moved around... Helicopters and small planes surveying the waters... I went swimming and laying out... no dead wildlife... lots of ppl out fishing and shrimping...
