Clutch slipping?

So I was out riding tonight going about 70 down the by-pass when I decided to go WOT in 6th just for the hell of it. The rpms slowly climbed from 3k to 6k before jumping to 8k when I let off the throttle. When it jumped it kind of felt like the back tire was slipping on ice (clutch slip). I decided to try and replicate it but this time stayed on the throttle. Once the rpms hit around 8.5k it made the noise like when shifting gears and the clutch instantly caught causing the rpm to settle where they should be. Are my clutch plates going bad? The bike has 9k miles 2k of which are mine so I don't know what past abuse it had.

Make sure you are using motorcycle specific oil. If that is not the problem, it sounds like you might have to look at your clutch.
