Hey,
I have a 99 Blackbird and am looking to get a Hayabusa this summer. Anybody who's changed sides, can you give me feedback?

Welcome to the board...

All I can say is watch Mach III. The blackbird was in it for about 2 minutes and then they decided to leave it behind because it SUCKED so bad!

I was interest in the blackbird at first and that is all I wanted.  I loved the appearace mostly and not so much for the busa.  But then the busa grew on me and I am so glad I got it instead.  So as far as riding difference I have never ridin the bird so cant help ya there.  Welcome to the board you will find that everybody is willing to help out and there is a lot of darn good people here.

Welcome.. Depends on what you are looking for. Busa does not get up to Mach III only mach II. Busa is a lot smoother getting there.

I came from a Blackbird before I went Busa in 99. The Busa is a More aggressive bike in everyway. Don't expect to buy one thinking is going to be as comfortable as a Blackbird but expect it to do Everything else better. The Busa has character and the blackbird in my opinion was almost boring. Oh yeah and I hated the link brakes. You will get respect on a Busa,( which you won't get on a Bird or a ZX11). The bottom line is you will love the Busa.
BlackBird Busa Scale of 1-10
comfort 10 9
wind protect 10 9
Engine 5 10
Kick in the ass 5 10
Handling 6 10

TEAM has it right.....the respect factor is incredible with a Hayabusa. EVEN LITTLE KIDS SHOUT OUT THE WINDOWS OF THEIR MINIVANS AND SUVS THAT THEIR PARENTS ARE DRIVING.....NO KIDDING....LAST WEEK ON 2 OCASSIONS KIDS YELLED "NICE BUSA".

Gals love it, Guys drool over it and they cry at night chanting to themselves..."I wish I bought a busa, I wish I bought a busa, I wish I bought a freaking busa".

I pulled up to a Kawasaki dealer once with my new monster to get some gear....A whole slew of customers walked out to admire my baby. Salespeople were pissed...but understood....
the busa commands more respect on the road than any machine known to mankind....only a Lamborghini or an F-14 Tomcat will get more attention....but when you blow the doors of the Ghini, you then command it all.

Every time I ride I hear compliements on the Busa...mainly from Ninja riders and R6 riders....

I had a '99 and an '01 Blackbird. Here are a couple of observations:

Powertrain
Not quite as silky-smooth as the XX, but almost. Minor buzz @ 5.5K, nothing serious. More power and torque everywhere, slightly better throttle response than the XX. Transmission shifting feel is similar, XX slightly less positive.

Brakes
Big difference. The Busa could use better brakes, but still stops much better than the XX. My wife and I do a lot of "Cannonballing", and the XX definitely faded more than the Busa. Busa "feel" slightly better.

Chassis / suspension
The XX is slightly plusher, but at a cost (the fork dive was especially annoying). The Busa feels lighter and tighter than the weight difference would suggest (the XX is significantly heavier than the Busa). It's easier to make mid-turn corrections on the Busa tham the XX without upsetting the bike.

Comfort
This is very subjective, but I thought the comfort was about the same overall, with a slight nod going to the XX for it's broader seat. Rider geometry is similar between the two bikes. The 2001 - XX has a taller windshield than the Busa, almost a factory "Sport-touring" windshield.

Quality / Finish
The XX has a bit of an advantage here. The finish looked better on my '99 XX after 25k miles than my '01 Busa at 7K. I have also had some mechanical problems with my Busa (cam chain tensioner and some electrical problems) than I didn't have on my XXs.

Overall
It isn't far from the truth to say the Busa is a faster, better handling XX. There is a noticeable difference in performance, with little sacrifice in comfort.

I think almost anyone coming from an XX would enjoy a Busa. It is one of the few bikes that I have ever had that met my expectations.

Good luck with your decision,

Mike

Never owned a XX...I guess that meant something at one time or another...I had I partner that owned a zx11 to me their the exact same bike his was a 99...Anyway I rode his bike quite often so I'll give the bit of comparison that I can..."THE BUSA IS A MUCH BETTER BIKE PERIOD!!!!"...Nuff said...

Pyhooya, welcome to the board. Fay Myers had a black(I think), silver and orange(40th Anniversary) when I was there a couple weeks ago. Shouldn't be too far from ya depending on what part of Aurora you are from.
