CAT C Purchase, thoughts?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I was hoping for a little advice and insight from you guys.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2000 Hayabusa with 18k miles for £3000 (~$4700). The bike is a CAT c write off and I was informed it is due to damaged plastics which have now been repainted.

Is this a reasonable offer?

Another concern I had is I have read that the 2000 Hayabusas' suffered from weak sub frames and the pillion section could break off - is there any truth in this?

Thanks.

Pass, that's a rip-off.
You can buy a gen1 with low miles in good condition for less than that.
99/00 models had an aluminum subframe that was prone to stress fractures.
I don't know that any actually broke off of the bikes.
99, 00, and 01 models had ecu, fuel pump/filter, subframe, and a few minor changes.
02-07 have the factory improvements, and are all the same.
The 99-01 can be easily upgraded to the 02-07 parts.
The 99-01 are also good bikes, and you shouldn't be concerned about buying one...assuming the price is right.
