oh this is but the tip of what they are doing in NY and on Long Island. There's this kinda socialist crap but then again there's now some schools where kids cannot fail...seriously, there's no pass/fail, there's no D or F grades and everyone in the class learns at the slowest student's pace...oh yeah no "special ed" everyone is equal. What's worse, the teachers are lazy, at least up here where they are unioned and must only teach what is required by school testing & published syllabus My 8yr old actually ran into this in kindergarten when the teacher finished what she was required to teach 3wks early and started sending notes home about how disruptive my daughter was being in class. My response "well then why don't you teach them something, I honestly don't care if she's leading Barnum and Bailey through here if your plans are to give them meaningless busy work and expect them not to talk, play and act like kids. After all you aren't really teaching are you?" That one got me a special invite to the principal and superintendent's office I was less nice in my choice of words to them We wound up keeping her home for the last 2wks of school and switched school districts in 1st grade.
