a total of 18% of my entire company's weekly web traffic is going to 4.27.14.125...can anybody give me an idea of what this might be (All I get is Level 3 in KS City)...

On top of that, I have one user that is 82% of my entire volume...what can I do to sniff out what's causing all this usage?

It's not; Level 3 is not my provider.

LIke I said, ONE user out of about 50 is using 82% of our available bandwidth...I know who it is, and I've scanned that machine forwards and backwards, but I have YET to figure out what the heck he could be doing that would use up 82% of the bandwith..would have to be streaming video ALL DAY...

Why don't you just block that IP address? If it's a legit customer, they will call you when he can no longer get access. I think someone is using your server as a hop to keep their identity hidden.

they are probably running a p0rn site off of your servers

so when you say one user, you are talking about a customer or an employee? L3 is one of the larger service providers out there, could be anyone really coming in from that IP. I agree blocking it could lead to better answers than back tracking and you'll likely need to call L3 to find the real answer anyway. Have you rules out torrents and other file sharing type activity? If you do not have a relationship with L3 calling them might find roadblocks but you could always call and ask who the heck is chewing up your pipe from their servers.

youtube uses a TON of bandwidth (especially on HD). That and FB. They had them blocked on base until recently. Now we can use the watered down versions of both but its slow and sucky. Just a thought

Level 3 has been a content delivery network provider for Netflix. That would be my first guess. Their HD stuff uses up to 2.8 GB per hour for HD content, or 4.7 GB per hour for 3D content.

It's Tuf, HD and 3D adult entertainment eats up the bandwidth. At least that's what Michelle told me Bots said

Why did I know it was Tuf? That guy is into some weird stuff.. At least that's what Vabs told me.. ???

Yep, and it could be kiddie porn too. That could land you right in the middle of an investigation. Using legitimate servers to hide unscrupulous behavior is an old standby. Many corporate servers have been hacked for that purpose. Floyd

This is one of our machines and our employees; my firewall report tells me the IP address so I know who it is. I don't have any servers.

The employee I know is going thru a divorce, so rather than go home he's staying down at their office quite a bit after hours. Netflix wouldn't surprise me a bit I'm going to have to ask him about it. If it's after hours (and not porn - firewall blocks porn) I don't mind so much. If I knew it was Netflix and after hours I'd be ok w/it.
