Cam Chain Adjuster Replacement

I've been following the Hayabusa board since I picked up my Copper/Silver Busa back in April, 1999. However, this is my first posting so here it goes.

I've decided to do my own replacement of the cam chain adjuster. My first attempt at having the recall performed at the dealership was a complete waste of time. I figure if I'm going to do it myself, why not look for a higher quality aftermarket piece instead of the factory one. Anyone have any recommendations concerning what brand and where to purchase one? I'm located in southern Michigan.

It should be done under warranty if you do it yourself and have a failure you have no recourse.Find a dealer to do it DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF.

I do not know what problems you have with your dealer but if it is time related read what the National Highway Safety Commission says and pay close attention to the last few lines:

Vehicle Description: Motorcycles. The spring in the cam chain tension adjuster can break allowing the cam chain to jump to the wrong position on the cam shaft sprockets. If the chain jumps to the wrong position, severe engine damage could occur causing sudden engine failure.

Sudden engine failure could cause the rear wheel to lockup, disturbing the rider's ability to control the motorcycle.

Dealers will replace the original cam chain tension adjuster with a revised cam chain tension adjuster. Owner notification began October 13, 1999. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Suzuki at 1-800-255-2550. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Good luck..
