BUSTED. 98 in a 45 zone in florida

Happened in the z06. Not on the bike. Officer was pretty cool considering the circumstances. I am a "safe" driver according to my license and I have hired one of the best lawyers I could find and have no prior criminal record or speeding convictions. The lawyer said he is confident he can get it thrown out. The citation says I was busted with a Stalker Radar gun but my top of the line escort max 360c radar detector never went off (until the officer was right there looking at my license and it was going off crazily right in front of him which looked so disrespectful). The officer said I will get a court date in the mail but the lawyer will go on my behalf. Violation of section 316.187 in the state of florida. Anyone else ever dealt with this before?

You mean it didn’t go off until he was looking at your drivers license? If he wasn’t operating his unit how do you explain that? Or it went off when you and he were very close, close enough to read your car’s license? But no, I haven’t had any contact with LE in years with my V1.

I have no clue. It was silent as a mouse until I got pulled over and when he had his bike right behind my car it started screaming like crazy. I dont get it.

I get it, maybe. No offense meant to LE but he has the ability to lock in the last speed detected on his unit where it can appear as his last traffic stop (you), whether or not it was you. He could’ve turned on his unit after the stop displaying the last speed he locked in on. Or, you (were) speeding that he or anyone else could tell was faster than the posted limit and he pulled you over w/o enough time and distance to pace you and needed something more solid than just his estimate of your speed to put on his ticket. Or, your Escort is crap. :D Twice the limit around here is no longer just speeding, it’s reckless driving, a misdemeanor, punishable by actual jail time. Officers discretion as to whether or not your car gets towed.

He did not even ask for my for my insurance or registration. Gave me the citation and let me leave

I'm not going to pretend I have always pulled over, but I will say this: If you're not going to stop, you had better be committed. If you're unsuccessful in your attempt to flee and elude, the penalty will be far stiffer than if you'd pulled over.
My personal ROE are that if whatever the cop saw me doing was likely to get me arrested, I'm up. If not, I'll stop and talk.

Not sure about Florida but here in Michigan and I know in South Carolina the insurance companies are tied into the states computers so once they scan your plate or type in your info they already know if you have insurance. The whole asking fir a card now it's just if they wanna write an extra ticket in case you don't have proof on you, luckily most states accept digital proof now so I just keep them saved on my phone in case I lose ther paper.

Be careful there and check your citation.
As long as the citation box “provided insurance” is checked, you’re good.
If the box saying you showed insurance is not checked, then when it runs the system they will suspend your license and they do not have to inform you this has happened.
I drove unknowingly on suspended for almost two years because of this. I only found out because I got stopped again 2 years later lol.

Most likely he checked it as insurance provided. Because there’s likely not many z06s running around uninsured. Also you can assume a good many things by profiling. Moral? Na. Effective? Usually

45 zone and your doing over double? Then you expect to get off cause you a "safe" driver? Should have cuffed ya and tossed ya.

I mean he’s not wrong broski. Those speeds should be kept out on the clear open interstates. Cars even more so.

Just because we are a bunch of speed junkies doesn’t mean we should be supportive of actin a damn fool.

Sorry man, I honestly dont know what you expected? Was it radar detector advice? Maybe an attaboy for managing to go that fast in a vette? :) Most here have done some stupid crap in our days, me included, but we took our redicule and punishment like men :)
 
My worse was 117 in a 55 where I got 2 tickets. reckless driving and speeding. We got the reckless dropped but the speeding stuck. I had to take a defensive driving coarse before my court day due to points that were already on my license. My cost were 500 for the lawyer and 550 for the ticket. I don't know what kind of radar he use but when I searched by name it came up with one used for baseball. LOL With pulse type laser I thought radar detectors where pretty much useless now a days.
 
My worst was 110 in a 55. ticket was going to be $650 and a whole gob of community service. Soo fortunate for me, I knew a busa rider in a nearby city that was lieutenant for the swat team and he got it reduced to $350 with no community service, phew man. That was in 2003, i've grown up some, I think hehe.
 
Yes I have some experience in this. I can help you understand the radar portion. I've written about this more than once in threads here. Rather than retype it all out again I'll offer this. If you want to discuss the validity of radar and how to defeat it, I can. But you already have an atty that can likely do as they propose. So not sure what else you need to discuss. The atty will do as good as you could ever hope to if you decided to fight it yourself.

They are definitely illegal here too...they have detectors for the detectors and that fine is hefty...

Of course they don't want to lose revenue now do they?
