Bouncing RPM needle

I took the busa (gen 1) out this weekend and noticed that at about 4500 RPM the needle on my tach would go nuts. It would bounce from 0 to redline and back. The bike ran great and idled smooth when stopped but once I hit 4500 RPMs the tach was useless. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks,
Dan

Mine does that but I know exactly what the problem is with mine:laugh: I have a connection problem in the back of the cluster and I push the plug and pins in and goes to back to normal for a while. I have to replace the harness to fix the problem an that ain't happening  Not sure if thats the issue with yours but it is something to check.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check the connection to the cluster this evening.

It's probably a connection issue. Check the wires going into the dash panel.

I agree with the possible connection issue. On my Gen1 as I recall at 4500 or so the engine harmonic changed and picked up an extra level of buzz. That buzz could be the just right change needed to cause that connection to have an issue.

clean the pickup on the front sprocket...too much chain lube builds up and gunks it up...

Thanks for the suggestions!

It looks like I won't get a chance to check on the bike until this weekend.
