Bike up Date and help

Well i have it mostly together and a friend from work is powder coating the left side lower cover for me(free) When it is done i am having him do the other and it will make a nice gift for someone here.
I siphoned the tank and put new gas back in. After 15 min we got it started, it ran for at an idle for 5 to 7 min. I then went to take it up the road, i had ridden more than one tenth of a mile and it started to sputter, 2 tenths in and the sputtering was worse. By the half mile mark she died, I repeatedly tried to start but no luck and had to push it home.
Is there anything i need to change or look at, it was the first time it had been started in 7 months. I will be changing the spark plugs this weekend.
Any suggestions?

hrm. check the voltage at the battery. if it's low, or not charging, you may have the stator cover installed incrorrectly.

Sounds just like what happened to me once when I put too much oil on a K&N filter.

Put new plugs in and then run again for a while. Pull the plugs and read em. A great deal of info can be gained from reading spark plugs.

1. Check each plug for spark.
2. If there is spark it is probablly fuel related.
3. If there is no spark then it is electrically related. Start checking
connections on the battery.
