Best GPS for Bikes

Just got my busa a few weeks ago and trying to get
all the goodies on it I think I need. I hear you guys
talking about the GPS's and wondered if there's one which
is best for mounting and durability for bikes.
Thanks for any advice.

Depends what you want to do with the GPS.

1. navigating
2. Speed checking etc.

You really do not need to have max speed unless you are going to do some high speed runs.

garmin E-trek is the least expensive and very good. it has to have a clear view (on Bars etc.) to get the satalite. $119.00 or less

garmins next model up can go under or in the humb. $150.00 or less.

They make a nice GPS watch, but to date they do not give Max speed.

You might want to check into some of the nautical ones also. I know they are all weather resistant, but some times specifics can make a difference. The couple that I looked at seemed to have a larger view screen also. Once again Garmin.

Timex has a GPS watch also, and I think it has top speed. Not sure though.

Steve

In conjuntion with this thread...

How are you guys mounting the GPS to the Busa? I've got a Garmin III+, and trying to figure out best way to mount.

Good point, Ninja. I had thought about gettin' a GPS but only really wanted top speed info. Since I prolly won't make that many top end runs, if I ever do it at all, I decided that a speedo correction unit would prolly be the way to go. I guess GPS would be cool for navigation on long trips but I don't know that I'll really be makin' that many of those either. So far, mapquest and a little studyin' has covered me there. ;)

I've decided that my GPS money can go toward a PCIIIR for now. :super:

Thanks for the info. Am looking at the Garmin website
for offerings. Attachment to bike, I guess, is a creative
process, ty wraps, duct tape, roll your own.
Thanks again.

I've used the RAM mount with my Garmin StreetPilot on my touring bikes and have always enjoyed it was there. I ride into Mexico and sometimes there are roads that are not on any maps, not even the GPS! Top speed on my touring bikes was never anything I really 'needed', but it was still cool. One of my riding friends has the Garmin E-Trex (I think that's the one), it does almost everything mine does, and it is the size of an average Nokia cell phone. He also used a RAM mount. Just make sure to 'hard wire' it into your bike or you will get tired of changing batteries (especially with the display illuminated at night).

I haven't got my Hayabusa (yet), but it will have at least one RAM mount on it! I looked at a bike today... a 2003 NIB for $1,000 off MSRP! I might hold out for the '04... who knows. My wifes says... "Just buy the damn thing!!!".... isn't love grand! :)
