This happened in my boat last night while it was charging. The part that flew the farthest was 30 steps away from the explosion. Luckily nobody was around and nothing was damaged in the boat.
Wow, what type of charger? That’s why I’m a fan of battery tenders with the smart charging and I don’t like leaving one On charge and leaving it home unsupervised unless it is outside
Not sure why it exploded. Temps were down in the 30s last night so that may have something to do with it. It was a non automatic Schumacher charger. The large type that wheels around. Battery was a 2014 model so it was older.
Batteries are very explosive. One should always disconnect negative lead 1st ,and attach it last . Boats are prone to this due to poor ventilation of fumes from a battery .
A spark is all it takes for explosive episode to happen.
