Backfire/loss Of Power?

hello,

Euston we have a problem.

I run a gen 1 stock engine installed in a car, it as ran faultlessly since installation 2 years ago.

During a track day it all of a sudden lost power and ran rough, it was towards the end of the day so I trailered up and sulked all the way home.

Symptoms,
it is difficult to start, almost as if timing is advanced.
It will idle but the revs increase/decrease as if it is hunting.
If I increase the revs it will backfire intermittently and randomly through all 4 inlets.
It will Rev but sounds decidedly rough.

I have so far,
checked fuel pressure, was 43psi, I have since fitted a inline gauge to make sure it maintains pressure, it does.
Changed the plugs, they do now apear sooty, I was expecting to see lean?
By passed the power commander, no change.
Done a compression test, 180-180-190-180.
Checked for any vacunm leaks, cannot detect any.

I'm stumped, before I take it to a shop any ideas what I can try?

Thank you in advance, Jon.

Can you perform a leakdown test? If you have burnt inlet valves, this could explain the flaming in the throttle bodies.
I also had similar characteristics, to what you have described, my problem turned out to be a faulty ckps (crankshaft position sensor) it's combined with the stator winding.
