APE Studs stretching

Anybody ever experience this? I have their 10mm studs, and recently rebuilt the motor after a JE piston came apart. I called APE to ask if this is normal and they blamed my torque wrench by saying it is out of calibration.

I find it interesting that half of them torqued fine, and the rest wouldn't hold a torque. The ones that wouldn't hold a torque measured at .070"+ longer than when I started.

So my question I guess is, have you seen this before? Normal?

Should I be pissed that their only suggestion was to sell me another set @retail?

Seriously considered buying ARP as well. I've never had an issue with their stuff.

It’s twice the price prob for a reason. How much boost were you pushing.

Only about 12psi. I didn't have an issue with that. I didn't blow a head gasket, and there wasn't any walking on the deck.

There are also some comments on SHB.org concerning APE stud issues.
ARP seems the way to go

I was part of that thread. I will tell you the same. if Skip Gladstone approves then...……..
those were made at the same time with same material.
did you send them back, let them look to see about a problem?

I will NEVER think I know it all. could the studs be the problem, absolutely. I am saying, if it were my personal motor I would consider the wrench before the studs. just glad you recognized before it was too late.
