Anyone turn there passenger footpads into turn signals?

I've seen on the road that someone turned his signal lights and put the some leds into the passenger pegs ! Anyone have a clue how it's done?
It looks wicked! Sorry no pics of it though

does look good but I think if doing LEDs like this, resistors are needed. or the leds will burn out quicker. IMO
