Anyone hit 150+ on the freeway?

jwcfbd's recent encounter with "the man" made me think about the ease and frequency of tripling the speed limit.
How often do you?

Ride Safe! :super:

150:super:?  Man, it is just too easy on the Hayabusa...  We have bridges over the bay here in Tampa that seem to have been specifically built for high speed runs.  7-10 miles of relatively straight, smooth, interesection free Highway....  OK Yeah I have topped out the Busa a few times, wrapped the right hand needle over to the peg and had it keep pulling till the rev limiter kicked in...   Over 150 many times, 130-140 allmost everytime I ride (Nice Smooth empty road about 1 mile from the house).

BUT!!!  I no longer go out to the bridges for a top speed run, and I never spend any length of time above about 110.  I saw a thing on history or Discovery channel where a drag racer in FULL leather laid it down at about 200MPH.  He landed pretty gently but the road ground through his leathers and ground off both knee caps... took him about a year to walk again...this dude was FUBAR and this was in Full leathers folks... Sobering thought...   Kinda woke me up a little.  Here I am at 170-180 in a leather jacket and freakin Jeans?   Oh Hell NO...  Twisties and Acceleration are where it is at for me... And the Busa does these things well...  No more running for top end, at least not until I have a set of full leathers with knee sliders, and Racing Boots...  ;)

Lets see........I'm in Kansas where all the yellow brick roads are shall we say "Straight" for a hundred miles in any direction!
Nope, never done it......

Revlis.....just watched one of the nickslick and crazytrain videos...how the heck do those guys do that stuff. 180+ with traffic and other bikes around? How do they do sharp turns at 70mph? Amazing skills, I can't even do a tollway on-ramp at 50 mph yet...to freaking scared still and my top end is only 120...do these folks learn these skills at tracks or do they just ride twisties all day long and are good at it?

Oh and at over 150?  If you get tagged by a LEO you may as well just pretend you don't see him and try to escape...  WHY?  Cause you are going to jail anyway my friend, they are going to tow and impound your bike, and you are going to loose your license anyway...  Besides if you know the area well enough by the time Back up arrives to intercept or assist, you are long gone... Just get off the road ASAP.  Get out of your gear. and Lay low for awhile...

OK OK the above is prolly really BAD advice and is just my opinion only, I do not recommend anyone actually consider this as an option, and should be considered only a "THEORY" and NOT something I have EVER done, doing this would be horribly wrong and puts your life in jeapordy, which is a bad thing.

Neither Hayabusa.org nor American Suzuki endorse this sort of activity... It is dangerous and a Felony...Sort of ...

Though Tampa Does have a no Pursuit policy....

Kidding Kidding....

No I'm not....  Wait, sorry yes, yes I am kidding...

Actually it is not as difficult as you may think... It's really quite simple. Lower your gearing for more acceleration, and all of the sudden especially if it is altered significantly, 80MPH reads as 120, 120 reads as 160...Not all that hard... Just a theory mind you...But I bet I am close to a dark secret here...

Shhh don't tell no one...But MikeyUSF paced a school bus one day going about 110... OK actually it was going about 65...Altered gearing does cool things in videos.

Still fast as hell though.... And much respect to Nickslick...though he doesn't respond to anything. Kick ass video's though... And as I mentioned, Just a theory of mine...
I have nothing to back it up what so ever, Just watched the landscape in the videos...

I saw this test of leather for skid resistance. At 60 MPH the leather skid for 80 ft before burning thru. Jeans lasted 4 feet - they just peeled off basically. If you drop onto the pavement at 100-120 MPH you are going to skid for at least 300 feet and maybe more. That is a football field in length. If the leather burns off in 80 feet, you get to slide another 220 ft on your a$$. Perhaps a good technique is to keep moving while sliding so no part of your leather has to slide more than 60 ft???

Just kiddding.

....so... did ya get it on video? ? ?    :D

I'll admit to having opened her up a few times a while back, but NEVER near ANYTHING public. Only on deep country back roads that are clear, flat, open, empty. I would NEVER want to have the possibility of endangering anyone else while I make my high speed runs to 65 mph.

Yeah, This is what I am talking about, and this is why I no longer go for the big speed numbers. I figure I have gone as fast as she can go so there isn't a point in repeating it.

At least not repeating it until I finish my suit of Titanium Chainmail...

Bad move. If you try and "roll" at that speed you'll end up breaking every bone in your body, starting with the ones that stick out. Spread out, sop up as much speed as you can, and hope your gear holds up.

Let me know if you find that titanium chainmail suit for sale somewhere.
They are ou there, Divers call em' shark suits...   Problem is trying to get it to work out on the road...and uh they are a bit pricey...

Would make for a freakin awesome crash in the dark though...huge shower of bright sparks sliding down the road...

I used to pull 150+ runs daily, until I started doing some land speed racing.

Funny thing, once I had the chance to open it up full speed on the salt I no longer had the urge (most of the time) to hit it hard on the road. I bought a throttlemeister and that really helped.

I now try to race Utah once a year and North Carolina a couple of times. It gives me something to look forward to and helps me keep it below 100 on the street now.

If you are anywhere near the East coast, I really recommend the ECTA racing in N.C. It is the cheapest, legal fun you will ever have. October 25-26 is the last race of the year. Maybe I'll see you there.

Ride safe,

Hey Monster,

For the Busa, it is peanuts. How much HP is your bike making anyway? I just had the Carpenter 210HP mod done to mine and I love it. I can't wait to get my NOS on.

Unfortunately most of my riding to and from work is on back country roads here in Ohio. This year is especially bad because most of the farmers in my area planted beans last year, which means its all corn this year and the deer pop in and out without much warning.

I have been hitting close to the top (180 yesterday) practicing for the next run in N.C. Shifting is everything to getting a good top end on that track.

174 is tops for me.  Keep in mind that at that speed, the traffic you are overtaking (if you are silly enough to do it in traffic) is oncomming at 120 mph
