American Chopper going off the air Dec. 11th? Really?

I remember meeting the Teutuls at a show over 15 years ago they only had a handful of bikes under their belts at the time. Still very humble and jacked about being part of the wave of motorcycle interest that was rising. Fast forward to end of 2003, they were at the HD 100th anniversary in Milwaukee . Police escort, t-shirts and trinkets selling for a small fortune, and already had jumped the shark. It seems around that time they got way ahead of themselves. The show was great at getting a whole new group of people interested in the sport and encouraged many to pick up a wrench for the first time. It was not good that the family imploded in front of it's entire viewing audience. Show has sucked for several years, and it's about time they put that dog to sleep.

Who's gonna make all dem theme bikes with cool idears now?

Side note, Jesse James is back on tv, so I'm gettin on thst bandwagon, West Coast Choppers 4 life!

FINALLY!! Thank goodness
<<<<what she said..... it was like watching too old ladies whine over who knitted better sweaters:whistle:. hopefully they can get back to building motorcycles some day vs. plaques for companies with a motor, frame and two tires.

and just for the record that pee-wee herman looking thing Paul jr. made was the ugliest lookn bike ive ever seen and the furthest thing from a motorcycle. and the fact that the fans voted for him only proves how phony that show became when clearly JJ had the best bike. it was nothing special but better then those two rediculous lookn things the teutuls created.

the only real person on that show was Rick.

I liked the show. If it has motorcycles in it, I'll watch it. I like Paul Jr.'s bikes too; they're more pieces of art than ride-able street machines, but there's a market for that too, and I respect it. OCC lost a lot of creativity when Jr. left. It's probably time to end the show but I'm sure there will be reruns for decades and I hope they replace the show with another MC show. Maybe that show "Cafe Racer", or a show following Nickey Hayden, Gadson, or Schnitz around .

Ordering parts out of a catalog and tweaking them never constituted a "hand built custom" to me. Heck anyone can open a catalog, go online and order something, bolt it on and call it custom........Jesse James on the other hand custom builds alot of things from scratch. He is very talented. But production makes money so one off hand built things aren't the money maker for these guys.

I agree...that was my beef with the show. They basically ordered parts and put them together. I like watching something done from scratch. What show was it that used to be on, where they'd pit builders against one another? THAT show was pretty cool...shows true talent.

thank god some elis seen this....i always said that there are not true bike builders...+1000

A classic example of what fame will do to a family....

They built a lot of pretty but useless bikes. I wonder how heavy some of them were. Almost everything was built out of solid round bar and overly thick plate metal. I will say some of the wheels they designed and built were pretty cool.
I've been watching the last episodes and it is clear they could never be in business together because neither of them have the maturity to do so. It was entertaining at times.

I do have to admit that later on in the show when they got a waterjet and a couple cnc machines and real people to run them ( behind the scenes ), they started to build some parts. But mostly modify parts catalog parts and have someone else paint them and detail them.

I would say they were good at assembling other peoples work....

Our Busas would seem utterly ridiculous and pointless to a GP racer at Motegi circuit. A 600RR might be one of the dumbest things imaginable to a 60year old guy that wants to ride 4 corners of North America. Their custom bikes fit a market the same way a Harley fits some and the Busa fits another.

When Jr. was there, he had a great eye for little but integral custom parts that incorporated the buyer's company and desires. When he left was when you got the company logo on an aircleaner on a mass produced chopper from OCC. I dunno, some of the little custom stuff Jr. comes up with just blows my mind. Maybe it's mostly mod-mag-made (especially at OCC, I don't like most of their newer bikes - Jason blows), but the little custom stuff sets it off.
And do you have a flojet? or two? or a CNC? The labor, time in production, paint/polish, and raw materials can easily turn a tiny handlebar grip or sprocket cover into a $2000 (would-be retail price) piece. A few of those plus the Jr or OCC name, and you have an expensive bike. (Not to mention, the value of having your company's name and logo reach millions of viewers for years to come)

I am working on it, 5 cnc's, chrome plating tanks, ceramic coatings, powder coating, welding and full fab area etc:laugh:...... now that damn TV show is all I need to make my millions. Too bad me and my employees all get along, I don't think we could fake enough animosity to make a good reality show.
