1. You need to multiple 5 times each value in the parenthesis. After doing so you will have x + 30 + 5x

2. Then you just combine similar values. 6x + 30

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

It helps to understand by doing the long version;

X+5(6+X)

means X + (5*6) + (5*X)
or 1X + 30 + 5X
0r 6X + 30 (last step is combining like)

This is how I would do it

x+5(6+x) = Xwife + 5 x 6 + 5Xwifes = 6Xwives + 30million bucks = flat broke for ever.:laugh:

Want to help me with one of my homework problems? :)

1) A pure copper part with dimensions Volume=50cm3 and As=200cm2 is to be cast in a closed sand mold. The sprue has a height h=15cm and a diameter at the base d=2cm. Calculate:

a) The velocity at the base of the sprue, v.=

b) The volumetric flow rate of molten copper, Q.=

c) The mold filling time, MFT.=

d) The total solidification time, TST, if the mold constant is Cm=3.2min/cm2. =

Oh, and on cooling the copper, just make sure the mold is full & leave it sit over night, it shouild be ok in the morning.

that is not an algebra ?
now come on now lol
i can figure it out but need to find the constants and figure for copper
its been a while since ive clac'ed anything like this lol

I am SO GLAD I don't need Algebra in anything I do cuz this thread makes me want to pull my fingernails off with a pair of pliers.

Will give it a shot, but need more information:

What is "As" ?
We need the flow friction constant to calculate the velocity at the base of the sprue, the rest is easy.
