AIR BOX CLAMP WARNING - K&N filter install

To change the air filter on the B King requires removing the air box. BEWARE -the shop manual instructions say to remove the screw on the clamps that attach the air box to the throttle bodies. LOOSEN - DO NOT REMOVE - the screws. If you remove the screws like I did, you will hear all the bits and pieces of the clamp assemblies falling away into the engine recesses as you pull the air box free. :banghead: Luckily I retrieved all but one of the bushings from the two clamp assemblies. Right now a short piece of copper tubing is serving as a clamp bushing while the part is on order.

The K&N filter makes a small improvement to acceleration and it's nice to know it will last the lifetime of the bike. If you are planning to replace the air filter set aside about two hours. To get to the air box requires lifting the fuel tank. 9 panels come off the bike before the tank can be lifted. Lots of screws and clips to keep track of. The air box is held together with about a dozen screws one of which is in a recess in the center of the box.

Still love this bike.

That sounds way more involved than a change in the Busa

Congrats on your mod~!~

Show us a pic of the air box. Why would they recommend removing the air box clamps? Is it that much different than the Busa air box?

Thanks for the heads up... Any of you older folks remember when cars had carbs and all changing a air filter consisted of was spinning a wing nut?

You laugh - my four year old came home talking about pop music of all things - so I asked what records do you like? He replied "What's a record daddy?"

Epic Parental Fail?!?!?

Because the air box is removed from the bike before it can be opened to change out the filter. No pic ... too much work to expose that thing. But you can see the parts illustration at the Riva South Key Largo website. They have a parts feature that lets you call up parts for any model. B King is GSX1300BK.

What do you fly? I'm a retired USCG rotorhead head now flying an EMS S76 here in Florida.
